Playhouse Window from a Recycled Mirror

May 22, 2013

When my parents cleaned out my old playhouse, to remodel for their grandchildren, they found this gem!

I was lucky enough to get to it before it got to the trash. I got some serious looks from my parents and my husband when I mentioned that I would like to take it on as a project. In fact, I was still lucky it didn’t end up mysteriously disappearing.

Not the prettiest looking thing. (Look at that handsome guy running from the playhouse.)

I removed the nasty cardboard and then the mirror from the frame.

Now for the bright, cheery color!

I decided to add curtains and cut two small panels. I only needed to hem the bottom because the inside edges came from the fabric edge and the other sides would be attached to the mirror.

I was thinking I would need to attach the material to the frame and then realized it would be a lot easier to attach them to the mirror – with tape even! How much easier could that be?

I didn’t want them to cover too much of the mirror, so I gathered at the top and left a space in the middle.

I found some ribbon to add as a tie-back and attached it to the back with tape as well. Once the mirror was squeezed back into the frame, everything stayed together perfectly.

Now the kiddos have a faux window over the sink. Even better than a window because kiddos love looking at themselves in the mirror.

I love this place! My kids are so lucky!

You might see this at any one of these fun parties!

I’m excited to announce that I will be co-hosting the Pinterest Power Party Thursday (beginning tomorrow night). Check back and link up, then look around for some pinsperation and get to pinning!
