Summer Wreath

May 5, 2013
Bring on Summer!

With the May snow we’ve been getting (what!?!) I decided I needed to do something to change our luck and bring on summer weather.

Maybe this was the jinx…

How can I expect sunshine with all those snowflakes on my door?
This project was long overdue.  I had planned to update this wreath for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter… Oops!

Today I finally took that jinx down, removed everything, and got out my new supplies.

I pulled the flowers off the stems/leaves. I left the plastic piece, that covered the stem, attached to the flower so I’d have something to weave into the wreath.

I took the time to weave each into the branches of the leaf, lifted it up to check the placement, and this happened…

The flowers fell off the stems… So much for using those as a way to stick them into the wreath!

Not to worry, I have one of these babies lying around. We’ve had this upholstery needle sitting around from a project that is at least a year or two old. Came in handy now!

I poked a hole through the flower…

Thread a bit of wire through the hole…

And placed each one into the wreath in a checkerboard pattern. I didn’t twist the wire or anything to secure, just suck it in and let the mess of branches hold it.

I tied a pink ribbon to the top (bow added later).

I tied a knot in the end of the ribbon and looped it over the door and hooked it to the upside down Command hook – thank you Pinterest!

My plan was to someday put our house numbers on the wreath and just change the other half out each season, but I haven’t gotten the numbers yet. This girl is a little too cheap to pay some of those prices just yet – I might come up with an alternative. I picked this letter H up at Michaels and it looks pretty cute, but I think I’d like to anchor it with some tiny pink flowers. I haven’t found any small enough yet. I just want a little something.

There we have it! I’m pretty sure all of Minnesota should thank me for the change in luck. You’re welcome everyone!

  2. Super pretty! I just reused my foam wreath form for about the fifth time. Its so easy just to switch wreath decor, isn’t it? Thanks for sharing at Pinworthy Projects.

  3. Loved your summer wreath! I have been planning to make one myself for ages now…never got around. I am inspired…yet again. Why don’t you cut out numbers that you want for your wreath, out of 1 inch Polystyrene(the one that comes in packing gadgets)? That is if haven’t done it already! I make all my alphabets and numbers out of waste Polystyrene and glitter them.
