Changing Seasons Winter Must-Haves

March 3, 2016

Happy Spring!

Normally, I wouldn’t be saying that this time of year in Minnesota. Usually February and the beginning of March means full-blown winter around here. This year has been pretty warm, but let me tell you, the changing seasons can be much more difficult than winter.

From dry skin and colds to what to wear when the weather is always different, these are our must-haves for the changing seasons.

Boots / Rain Boots

For the most part, you will find me in flip flops and tennies, neither of which work during the wet and slushy winter months. During this time of year, you will find me in boots. So much easier!

This time of year is really messy and slushy, and the perfect time to out the kiddos in their rain boots. They love them and they can splash a bit more than other footwear. Also, how cute are the rain boots out today!? I need some for myself! Do you wear adorable rain boots?

Fleece Anything!Changing seasons winter must-haves

Fleece is a must-have during winter and the surrounding seasons. It’s so cozy. In Minnesota you’ll find us substituting fleece for jackets when there is still snow on the ground but the temps are warming up to the 40s.

Bright colors are also a must! The lack of sun and vitamin D in the winter can really get you down after a while, but bright colors cheer you up. I love the pretty blue of this fleece shirt from GearBest, so bright and cheerful! It’s also super comfy and soft. GearBest sent me this fleece shirt to test out during our, normally harsh, Minnesota winter, but it’s been really mild! Our snow is melting away and the temps are rising. I think the wet weather, even more than the cold, calls for comfy clothing. This shirt is so soft, and has a great zipper to pull-up nice and high to keep warm or slide down low to cool off. Perfect!

Humidifier

The dry winter weather really wreaks havoc on our skin. My poor kiddos have some super scaly hands from all the hand washing and dry air. We’ve run a humidifier in our living room all winter this year. I think it has helped a lot to keep our skin was drying and cracking as well as keeping our throats from drying out.

Lotion

It’s no surprise that lotion is a must! I almost wasn’t going to mention it be aside it’s so obvious. My little guy hates lotion and I struggle to get home to let me put it on. With all the hand washing little ones do and all the playing outside, mtheir hands can end up so dry and scaly. My little ones have the most trouble with their skin when the seasons change. Right now, we’re applying lotion as often as they will let us.

I found a trick that works for putting lotion on my little guy. He hates the feeling of lotion on his hands, but especially on his palms. By having him out his palms together in “prayer hands,” he will let me apply the lotion to the backs of his hands.

Natural Cold Remedies

One of the biggest hurdles of winter weather is making it through cold-free. This is especially true when the seasons are changing and our bodies are adjusting.

I feel terrible when I see a cold coming on with the kids. When they were very young, I felt helpless because I didn’t know what to give them and I didn’t want to give them too much medication. As they’ve gotten older, we’ve found more natural remedies for their cold symptoms. This year, we got a chance to try out Gaia Herbs as a part of the MomsMeet community.

I love knowing that I can give my kids something to soothe their throats and help them feel better when they have a cold coming on, but not having to worry about giving them a bunch of medication and making sure I have the doses correct. I like that I’m giving them products from herbs, passing strict quality tests, and containing no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. The kids also enjoy the taste, which comes from organic honey, lemon, and flavorful essential oils, and feel better because they have their “medicine.”

Parents can trust the purity of organic herbs used in GaiaKids® Bronchial Wellness for Kids, such as Plantain and Grindelia, that are used traditionally in Europe for promoting respiratory health and naturally processed to ensure high concentration and absorption.

I definitely recommend checking out Gaia Herbs and including them in your arsenal against winter weather health concerns.  You can check it out for yourself and get a free sample of Bronchial Wellness for Kids and a $2 off GaiaKids® coupon: www.gaiaherbs.com/consumergiveaways (Coupon redeemable in store only.) Layers

When the seasons are changing, you have no idea what kind of weather you’re in for from day to day, or even minute to minute. The best thing to do is be prepared for anything. Layers are definitely your friend.

My favorite thing this year has been a blanket scarf. Is there anything better? This big ol’ scarf looks nice with a jacket and keeps me warm when it’s cold, it makes a light jacket a little warmer I can throw it on when I run outside quickly, and when I’m indoors I can choose to keep it on as another layer. I love it! Definitely my new favorite thing this winter!

Fingerless Gloves

Along with thumb holes, fingerless gloves are my favorite things! What can I say? I’m a sucker for comfy hands. Fingerless gloves are so adorable and you can still use your fingers. They’re the best for changing seasons!

What are some of your must-haves for winter and the changing seasons?
