Diet To Go Review

June 11, 2014

I’ve lost 50lbs on two different occasions now.

The first time was so much easier than the second for a number of reasons: I was in grad school and had a free gym with awesome classes, I had a great group of friends to workout with, and I lived alone and only had to feed myself.

That last one was huge! It is much different when you’re trying to feed a family of five and please everyone. I can’t eat a head of cauliflower and call it good. No matter how good my kiddos are about veggies they won’t always like the meals I want to eat. It’s a heck of a lot harder to figure portion size when the meal feeds 8 but the toddlers don’t eat quite a serving and the husband takes 2-3 servings.

When Diet-To-Go approached me and offered a weeks with of pre-portion meals, I was ecstatic! And, let me tell you, that was one great week! I was so spoiled with only having to cook for the kids and not worry about myself.

If you follow me on Instagram you got to see each meal I ate, but I’ll just share a few highlights. Feel free to pop over to Instagram to see what I thought of my first meal to my last.

Diet To Go tomato bake
This meal was delicious! So filling, I saved half for later!
Diet To Go sandwich and Sheffa snack
The sandwiches tasted amazing and the bread they used was awesome! I really loved the Sheffa snack mixes and have to find them somewhere!
Diet To Go soups
If I had to pick my least favorite meals it was the soups. They were still pretty good, but definitely not as good as everything else
Diet To Go Breakfast
The breakfasts were great! So much food that I could save a snack for later

Ok, whew! I had to resist showing each of my meals, but I think that’s enough. You can always check through Instagram if you’re dying for more pics!

Overall Thoughts

These meals are good!!!

They taste so fresh and the recipes are delicious.  I raved about the taste for days!

The meals were filling.

So here’s the thing…

Diet To Go offers a couple different meals options: Low-Fat Traditional (the one I chose), Low-Carb and Vegetarian.  Each has the option of 1200 and 1600 calories.  I had my suspicions that I was delivered the 1600 meal plan because the meals were so filing.  When I emailed to confirm, my heart sank to hear I had been consuming 1600 calories on a week that I wasn’t very active and was trying to lose weight for a DietBet… I definitely would have liked to review the 1200 calorie meals so I could determine whether the plan I would pick would be right for me.  I wonder what a difference those 400 calories made – I would expect they would cut out some of the bread and cream cheese, which would have been just fine with me.

The meal plans are a bit pricey.

I’m a frugal Momma.  This option, while super convenient and amazing, would not be for me because I couldn’t swing $100 a week on my meals alone when I spend less than that for our family of five.  However, I think this is an excellent option for people who don’t have a tight budget, but are tight on time and would pay for the convenience.  If you aren’t a Frugal Momma, these Diet-To-Go price comparisons make it look pretty good.

Can I just say again how convenient and tasty these meals are!

A box showed up at my door with every meal wrapped and ready for me.  I popped it all in the fridge and followed the menu.  Everything was delicious and I had such a great week of eating!  Like I said, I’d be interested to see how satisfied I would feel on the 1200 calorie plan, but the meals would probably be just as delicious but a bit smaller.

Perfect for anyone who could use the convenience of having meals delivered.

I brought these meals with me to our cabin, which is right next door to my grandparents.  They are older and live up there alone and this would be such a great option for them!  They could easily split the meals I had from the 1600 meal plan and have some delicious meals each day instead of snacking on something because they haven’t been to the store or don’t have the energy to make a meal.

I have some great news for anyone thinking of giving Diet-To-Go a try!

I have an exclusive code for you which will give you 25% off your first week! You can cancel anytime with no fee. This is a great way to try it out, gift a week to someone in need like I am going to do, or use it yourself for week when you may be home alone or just have a busy week where pre-packaged meals would come in handy. Have you tried a meal plan delivery service?

Do you meal prep? I would love to be that organized!

Do you know anyone like my grandparents who could benefit from a service like this?

    1. I’m way too cheap to justify it, but it was so nice!! And it’s good to know their food is worth the price. During deployment is an excellent idea!

  1. I think meal plan services sound like the most amazing thing ever. I cook, but lots of time I have no energy or run out of ideas. But you’re right, the price for most just seems too much. My hardest meal to “cook” is lunch bc it’s just me, I’m at home since I’m a blogger, and I usually look for the quickest option. Meal services could be great for one meal each day esp the hardest meal of the day to plan. Thanks for sharing and you’re doing a fantastic job!
