“Bringing Up Healthy”

Have you heard about Heidi Powell’s new show? She’s taking the Extreme Weight Loss approach to slow, lasting changes over the course of a year to help mothers achieve their fitness goals and set a healthy example for their families, and is called “Bringing Up Healthy.”

Ok, not really…

So why not?

I would tune in for a show focused on building healthy families. There would likely be a fantastic transformation as the Momma learns how to make health and fitness a priority instead of just an added item on their already full plate.

I’ve been trying to figure this out for over a year…

I’m making small steps and I’m proud that my kiddos will ask for fruits and veggies and to do do yoga or wear their running pants, but they also requested a dinner of Doritos and Skittles the other day… Womp womp… I take this as a reflection of Mom’s current behavior… along with some other influences, I don’t put all that on myself but it is a wake up call.

I also know there is more I can do for myself to get to the kind of fitness level I would like. The weight has been coming off, but I need to start working harder to tighten things up. This is where I’m really lost…

A show with moms losing the baby weight and getting a better body back would be such an inspiration! I’d love to learn what to do to help get rid of this tummy and the bat wing arms!

The best part of helping moms with young children is that they learn from us. What better time to change ourselves for the better than when impressionable little ones are watching our every move!?

And, c’mon, how flippin’ adorable is it to watch them do things like this on their own???

Ok ABC… I handed you this gem on a silver platter. Appeal to the desire of moms to do all they can to raise healthy, happy kiddos and be the role model to teach them the healthy habits.

And Heidi… when ABC begs you to do this show, the kiddos and I can meet you in Arizona! My almost 3yo and Cash seem like they’d be a riot together! And we can work on tackling potty training without edible reinforcement! 🙂  Sound like a plan???

Lose Your Booty: 1 week down, 3 to go

Do what you can, as much as you can


“Do what you can, as much as you can.”

That has been my motto for week one of Lose Your Booty. I have had my ups and downs, but the motivation of our DietBet has kept me going and motivated to do all I can. The “as much as you can” is my current focus.

I have been the queen of the mini workout this past week. As a Momma of a 1 and 2 year old, I struggle to get in a full workout. The time it takes to gear up and complete the workout is usually difficult, and showering after is impossible, so I usually get to feel sweaty and gross from naptime to nighttime.

So, last week, every time I came across a short workout I got up and did it. Anyone has time to bust out something like the small “100 calorie burner” posted in one of my three current DietBets…


40 Jumping Jacks
30 Crunches
20 Squats
10 Push Ups
30 sec Plank

The great thing is that it usually gives you a quick burst of energy and, for me, often leads to doing more. It’s great to impulsively do something good for your health. I haven’t regretted it – not even one time.

I have been pinning all sorts of short workouts. I’m especially interested in targeting my arms since I’ll be in a strapless dress in a wedding in May. Just today, I started got on a PopSugar Fitness kick when I started with the 10 Minute Workout for Tank Top Arms, I decided to follow that up with the 10 Minute Total-Body Toner, and finished up with 10 Minutes to Tone: Arm Workout.

I got in two great runs last week, and cooked some good meals. The one thing I struggled with was late-night snacking. Even with that struggle, I still managed to shave off 5 pounds by just getting back on track with my food tracking and being activity whenever I could. I even spent my blogging time on the elliptical! I’m definitely doing that more often! I was productive and I moved for the entire hour instead of sitting on my tush.

I feel pretty good about my first Lose Your Booty week! I’m so excited to announce that I was accepted as one of the newest FitFluential Ambassadors! I’m so excited! It’s such a great group and I totally look up to all the awesome fit people I’m joining.

Last, you all know, my biggest motivation in this journey is to model healthy habits for my kiddos.

I am so proud of my babies and am working in a post of the reasons they will be much healthier people than their Momma. Today, they were thrilled when Mom came home with a set of 1 pound weights just for them. They always ask to workout with me and now they have their own little baby weights – it’s too cute!
