Also, because the day ended up being a mix of rain and high humidity and we had to move the party to the basement. I’m really bummed I couldn’t get any better pictures than this…
I do have some pretty decent pics of the candy display I made, so I might as well take a break from the beautiful lake life and share.
My 2-year-old loves Dum Dum suckers. Let me rephrase that, 2YO loves to try each flavor of Dum Dum suckers and hand them back to Mom and ask for another.
Well, it’s his day, so who am I to stop him.
We didn’t have any styrofoam, so I was fully prepared to use an old box when I happened to purchase a cake stand that would be serving double-duty holding the cake and then holding my soaps by the kitchen sink.
I took said piece of styrofoam and marked out a pattern with a ruler. I imprinted each line with the stick from one of the suckers.
Things didn’t work out evenly, so I decided on the spot to make the display look like a gift. I placed the suckers at each corner and left space in the middle to tie a ribbon.
I pushed the sticks into the styrofoam, hoping I would be able to feel the holes after wrapping the “gift.”
I wrapped the styrofoam in newspaper, to go along with the decorating theme of the party, and began to push the sticks back into the holes.
I mentioned before that I had planned to tie it with a ribbon.
Now that would have been cute.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find the ribbon I had in mind and, since I was painting these anyway…
I reached for the paint again and made a faux ribbon.
I had a couple other decorations with the fanned newspaper, so I added a small fan as a bow.
And here it is in the poorly-lit basement, perched on top of the pool table covered in newspaper and an orange tablecloth.

Love that their on newspaper ( I often wrap all my Christmas gifts in newspaper and black ribbon – and always include plastic gloves in the stockings so everyone’s hands stay clean LMHO )
