Is the bread we eat a killer? {Dave’s Killer Bread Review}

November 2, 2014

One of the main things that stuck with me from hearing Bobby Saleem speak at the Biggest Loser Run Walk a couple weeks ago was hearing him say how he never eats wheat bread anymore because it is full of chemicals.

It’s a constant struggle between my cheapskate frugal tendencies and my desire to feed my family the best food possible. I think the health warrior is winning out over my inner cheapskate because I haven’t bought my go-to Aldi 99-cent wheat bread since.

It feels a little funny to write these words as I just finished a sugar cookie topped with a Hershey Hug, but there it is…

It may be a slow process, but I’m trying to make a conscious effort to limit the amount of things we eat that aren’t real food. As I read more and more, the amount of chemicals in store-bought bread is pretty alarming. I bought a bread maker over a year ago thinking about saving money, but I still wasn’t paying real close attention to my ingredients. I bought standard flour for bread baking and my loaves always turned out a little crazy…

Even before Bobby’s words resonated, I got the chance to try Dave’s Killer Bread through Moms Meet.  I was SO excited for the chance to review the bread I had heard so much about and seen all over social media!

Dave's Killer Bread Review

I was initially the most excited for the thin-sliced bread at only 60 calories a slice with all the goodness – and it was totally worth the excitement and completely delicious – but the Good Seed bread is to die for!!! I could literally eat a slice of that for dessert!

My husband told me we could never go back and that it was Dave’s Killer Bread from here on out. Unfortunately, it’s not currently available in Minnesota, but I’m sure that will change and we can always order online.

Dave's killer bread locator

Not only is it husband and kid approved, Dave’s Killer Bread has an amazing line of all organic, non-GMO project verified, whole grain breads!

From the Dave’s Killer Bread website:

We don’t use just any old non-GMO organic wheat. It’s gotta be non-GMO organic wheat from Montana, the best place in the world to grow high protein wheat. In fact, we’re leading sustainable agriculture practices and are supporting organic farming apprenticeships to help grow the next generation of organic farmers.

So what did I make with my awesome bread?>/h2>

Thin-sliced Dave's Killer Bread sandwich with mashed avocado spread instead of mayo

Some amazing basic sandwiches with mashed avocado as my spread instead of mayo. I even served the kiddos and their grandparents sandwiches since the bread was so delicious!

I also made a killer sandwich based off a Weight Watchers recipe – Eggplant and Balsamic Onions on Dave’s Good Seed Killer Bread. So good!

I absolutely love this:

At Dave’s Killer Bread, we bake boldly. Our bread isn’t easy to make, but we never cut corners. We pay painstaking attention to each and every step, and every loaf is hand-crafted. We insist on killer quality and ingredients. We don’t stop at great taste, and want to create an incredible experience that’s power packed with organic, Non-GMO nutrition. We’re real people who make a real product, and care about our breads, each other, and the communities we are part of. Because we believe we are Powering the Good™.

From now on I will be making sure our bread is killer, rather than A Killer.

  1. I have been eating Dave’s killer bread for a year now. It truly is hard to go back to other breads, nothing comes close. I also have a bread maker but getting a recipient as great as Dave’s killer bread is hard.
    Love the post
