In the corner of my kids’ bedroom I have some very special art on display.
Before staying home with my own kiddos, I worked with kiddos with autism. I started in 2004 in my undergrad program and continued a couple years after grad school. I had some of the best times with those kids!
I worked with one in particular who I have very fond memories of. He was a great artist, but would draw a tiny picture and throw the whole sheet of paper away. We began ripping the paper into small pieces and he would complete a task or two to draw on one.
I ended up coming home with a few in my pocket each day. I couldn’t bear to throw the little pictures out and ended up hanging on to them for a couple years before coming up with the perfect project. When I was pregnant with my first child I knew I wanted them in his room. It is great to see a display of a child’s drawings and to remember how special the artist is and remind us to count our blessings.
This was such an easy project. I picked up two frames and two different colored pieces of scrapbook paper. I played around with the placement a bit before settling on a pattern. I can’t even remember if I used any glue or tape to hold them down or just sandwiched them in.
Check out, “fox socks ax” at the top and, “blue is seal” at the bottom. So cute!
I love them! They are such a special reminder of all those children who played such an important part in my life, and a reminder to enjoy each day with my children and be thankful for everything we have.
