Barbecues, the beach, camping, boating, outdoor events… They all go better with a good beverage.
Usually, part of the trouble is deciding how to get your drinks to these outdoor activities. Do you lug around a few separate bottles, cans, or cartons, and a big bag of ice?
Or… do you figure out a way to bring them along.
This is the easiest way!
Drink Pouches
When our kiddos were babies the applesauce, yogurt, and baby food pouches were pretty new. I thought they were the most brilliant idea ever!
Our kiddos used them all the time, and it wasn’t until they were a bit older that I found the pouches you can fill and reuse.
Reusable pouches are fantastic and handy for kids. Now that they’re older, I’m all about using them for the adults!
Summer Drinks on the Go
It’s so hard to lug ice and drinks to all your outdoor events.
The fantastic thing about reusable drink pouches, is that you can mix up the drink and place them in the freezer. As they begin to thaw in your cooler, you have an easy ice-cold drink.
By freezing these drink pouches the day before your outdoor event, they act as an ice pack and stay ice cold when they’re ready to drink!
I’m so excited to use these for our annual Watercross camping trip. It’s always hard to keep everything cold enough.
Having a handful of these frozen pouches in the cooler will help things stay colder longer and will be delicious and cold.
Summer Drinks on the Go for Kids
Although I’m way more excited about drink pouches for adult beverages, they are still great for kids. Same idea works perfectly, you can pop them in the freezer and let them thaw when you’re out and about.
- juice
- lemonade
- yogurt
- applesauce
Simple Recipes for Summer Drinks on the Go
Ok, back to us adults!
The best summer drinks are refreshing and simple. I don’t get into complicated drink recipes, so here are some of our favorite simple summer drinks.
All are perfect for a drink pouch and summer activities.
SoCo Peach
My husband’s family lives in California. When I went for a conference, he visited his family and learned about his grandma’s favorite drink.
- 1 part Southern Comfort
- 3 parts Welch’s Peach Medley juice mix or a similar peach juice mix (have found a white grape peach juice at Aldi that also tastes great)
Easy Margarita
Few things scream “summer!” like a margarita! This has always been our go-to recipe. We use a bottle of beer and stir, but be careful if you decide to blend it!
- Frozen limeade concentrate
- 12oz water – using the limeade container (if you are making it frozen instead of in a pouch, use 2c ice to blend)
- 2 shots tequila
- Optional: 1 bottle of beer
Rumchata Rootbeer
This is my favorite drink ever since I saw a bartender pouring one for someone 3 years ago. It’s like a rootbeer float!
- 1 part Rumchata
- 3 parts Root Beer
Moscato Lemonade
Recipe adapted from delish and I can’t wait to try it!
- 1 bottle moscato
- 6 cup pink lemonade
- 1/2 cup vodka
Freckly FreshPouch
The pouches we’ve been using to make these fun drinks are Freckly FreshPouch and you can find them right on Amazon.
They have so many uses beyond summer drinks on the go…
Beyond beverages and smoothies, you can use them for food. Not only yogurt and applesauce for the kids, you can fill them with a trail mix or anything you’d put in a plastic bag if you just want to use the top.
What I love about these is that the seal is at the top and there is a great cutout handle.
I’ve used other pouches with the seal at the bottom and it makes me really nervous. The handle is something I haven’t seen on the other 2-3 products we’ve used. It makes it very easy for carrying around. Although, when pouring frozen drinks out the top they do get a bit messy.
You can fit so many of these in a cooler, they are perfect for all the activities you have planned for summer.
It’s a good a idea. A bit of preparation with these would surely make any picnic a less fiddly experience.

So true, right! I love the idea of built-in ice packs as the cooler is full of food too!
