Taking Care of YOU {5 ways to show some self-love after the holidays}

Whew! The holidays are over and the New Year is beginning!

Does anyone else feel like they just ran a marathon?

I feel like we’ve been running a race since Halloween! We left for Florida the first week of November, I attending a conference in Orlando, we spent a couple weeks helping out my grandparents with a remodel in another part of Florida, returned home on Thanksgiving Day, started the whirlwind of Christmas prep and shopping, had Kohls grant my wellness wish (details coming this week, I promise!) and film the family, hosted Christmas with my husband’s family, and completed all the Christmas festivities with my family and ended with a weekend at the cabin.

Wow! Now wonder!

I do have to give myself a bit of a pat on the back, though. After the craziness of November and the first week or two of December, I did finally remember to take care of myself around Christmas and this past weekend. Here are some things that helped me survive and some that I would like to continue to remember in the New Year.

Energybits Review and Giveaway!

I’m so excited to finally tell you about my experiences with this awesome company!

A few months ago I started hearing everyone raving about Energybits. I started looking into it and loved what I found.

The next thing I absolutely loved… I have never experienced a company with such amazing customer service! Shortly after commenting on a Enegybits review, I got an email from the brand manager. How great is that!? He addressed my questions and personally offered to allow me to try and review some bits for myself.

I was sent a sample pack of Energybits as well as a sample pack of Recoverybits.

I have never been one to particularly feel the effects of caffeine (which this product is not, but I’m just saying…) or other products promising an energy-boost. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t be able to give this product a quality review.

I tried the Energybits first.

Energybits first try

I had read reviews that the bits were awful to take because they are 100% algae and it is recommended that you take 20-30 at once.

Yes, they smell like fish food, but it isn’t that overwhelming at all. I found them easier than expected to take (the small size totally makes the amount manageable) and it got me through my workout! I was dragging a bit and I made it, so I’m a fan!

My second try was just before an indoor run – my first in months – and I felt great again. I love that they are all-natural and I don’t have to worry about what I’m putting in my body!

Energybits second try

My Recoverybits couldn’t have come in the mail at a better time. They were waiting for me at home when we returned from our whirlwind trip to LA. I jumped at the chance to try them to shake off that three-day travel “hangover” feeling. They totally got me feeling back to normal for Tiny Twisters gymnastics class the next morning.

Unfortunately, Recoverybits weren’t enough to magically reduce all the effects of four of these on the body of a Mom of toddlers who rarely gets a chance to have a cocktail anymore. Not gonna lie, I was really hoping for miracles here! Maybe my thirties is a good time to learn moderation during the first night of the annual snowmobile trip!

Long Island and Alaskan Ice Tea

All in all, I’m kinda in love with Energybits – the product, the company, and the philosophy! I, unfortunately, really struggle with the price since they are available in bags of 1,000 tablets for $115. That’s a lot to shell out at once.

However, I totally understand and agree with Jonathan, the brand manager I have been in touch with:

In regards to the price – you can find cheaper spirulina, but you risk contamination (due to quality issues with the water in Japan and standards in Chinese production) and the need to take even more. We had someone recently compare our spirulina with cheaper, store bought options (check it out here: http://bit.ly/12LRRTW). The reason ours costs a bit more is due to quality – we have the highest quality control standards and the spirulina is the best of the best. In virtually all cases, these other companies are mass distributors who sell hundreds of products at very low prices. They rely on volume not quality for profits and in almost all cases, they have used inferior strains of algae, inferior growing or production methods, inferior faster drying techniques (that destroy the enzymes and the nutrition) and inferior packaging methods etc.

In a nutshell, you get what you pay [for]. It will be impossible for the quality of these low price algae to meet the high standards and high quality as ours. As a result you may need to take 4-5 times as much to get the same concentration nutrition that is found in ours. Plus you always run the risk of contaminants being in low quality algae unlike ours which is guaranteed pure. We hold ourselves to be the gold standard. Algae is ALL we do. We are specialists. You always get the best from a specialist. We think people’s health is worth it.

Be sure to check out Energybits.com for info on all their great products! There’s a lot of great info to share, but I rambled in a bit about trying them, so I’ll leave you with this pretty infographic about Energybits and Vitamin B.

Lots of News!

Hey guys!

I’m back from an AMAZING vacation!  I cannot believe all that happened in those three days!

I wrote about Day 1 on the plane down, but didn’t have Internet access in the hotel (strange), so I will recap it all soon, I promise!  I can’t thank Planet Fitness and all the awesome ladies that made it possible enough!

5 Bits of Fun to Come

I have a ton of exciting things happening with this little ol’ blog right now!  I thought I’d just give you all a heads up, and share some of my plans so you can help me stick to them!

First, I finally have my own domain!  Goodbye “blogspot” I’m onto bigger and better things – ok, what it really means is that I have a lot to learn and will be trying to get it all figured out in the next couple weeks.  With the help of Kory Woodard (great help and some of the best prices I found!) most of the content is over on the new site.  I have a bit of work to do getting my sidebar into place and, let’s face it, it needs some help anyway!  I also had a bit of a glitch with eat Tips and Tricks Tuesday post and lost everything after the grab button – so strange, I don’t understand any of this stuff!  Hopefully I will get completely moved over soon – feel free to give me a not-so-gentle shove if it takes more than a week!

Second, in addition to the Biggest Loser posts, I will finally be getting my review of Energybits up on the blog!  They were so generous to send me a sample and allow me to give some away to you!  I’m not a supplement person, because I never know enough about anything to feel comfortable putting something I’m insure of in my body.  What I love about these is that they’re not crazy supplements full of things I’ve never heard of, they’re 100% natural ingredients (algae – Spurilina in Energybits and Chlorella in Recoverybits).  I can’t wait to share my thoughts with you – expect to see a Energybits review in the coming week and a Recoverybits review following my Valentine’s Snowmobile Weekend.

Third, I just got news that I will be a Run or Dye ambassador for the Minnesota run.  I’m really looking forward to this run, because even before I started running I thought it would be fun to do a colorful fun run.  So, stay tuned because I should have a great discount t code for you, and an opportunity for other Minnesota bloggers to get in on the fun!

Fourth, if you follow on Instagram, you have already seen my posts for the Move, Nourish, BelieveChallenge  hosted by Fit Approach and Lorna Jane Activewear.  We’re nearing the end of our Move week and I will be posting a recap this weekend.

Last, I’m very excited to announce that I am one of the new contributors of VMG206!  I’m going to be doing my best to represent the health and fitness side of things.  Stop by this week for a great healthy soup to keep you cozy through this never-ending cold winter!

Ok guys!  There’s the news!  Lots of fun stuff in store, and I will get on top of all of that shortly!  If there’s something you’re particularity excited about give me a little nudge and I’ll push it to the front of the list for you!

Sound good?  Did you watch the Biggest Loser Finale? Have you tried Energybits?  Have you done a Run or Dye?  Are you doing the Move, Nourish, Believe Challenge?  What, if anything, are you looking forward to?
