Each year as Thanksgiving approaches I wish for one thing.
We only make it on Thanksgiving. I wait all year. I always request more for leftovers!
My mom’s dressing/stuffing is amazing!!!
The star ingredient is definitely the smoked sausage, and we add plenty so we have some in every bite! The rest of the ingredients are so simple, but something magical happens.
Ingredients
- 2 bags seasoned breadcrumbs (sage and onion)
- 1 bad unseasoned breadcrumbs
- 2 smoked sausage links
- 6 stalks celery
- 1 small onion
- 8 tbs of butter
- 6 cups of water
Directions
- Finely chop celery and onion, sautée with 2 tbs butter until soft, and remove from pan
- Chop sausage into rough 1/4 inch pieces, and heat in the pan for a few minutes and discard any grease
- Heat water and remaining butter in the microwave or in a pan on the stove
- Add celery, onion, sausage, and breadcrumbs to a large bowl, cover with water and butter, and mix
- Stuff your bird and place the rest in an oven safe baking dish and cover with lid or foil
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Remove cover for last 15 minutes to crisp the top.
That’s a nice Thanksgiving picture, but did I forget to mention that I’m spending the holiday in sunny Florida? This is how I ate my dressing… By the pool on a beach towel. Lucky Lady!
