We had our first visit from the Tooth Fairy last week!

Our seven-year-old was determined to get his first wiggly tooth out before the first day of school. So, amidst all our back-to-school prep and trying to get to bed early, he was wiggling. The night before our meeting with his teacher, just one day before school, he worked at it and worked at it.

Finally, Mom had to come in for the assist.

I wish we would have had a video because there was this totally sweet moment when I got the tooth. He had no clue it had come out until he put his tongue through it and then his eyes lit up!

Time for a visit from the tooth fairy!

Fortunately, we were prepared.

When the first tooth started wiggling, we were making plans for Tooth Fairy pillow.

The fun thing about this is that the kiddos can do a lot of this project on their own. You also can use a sewing machine, let the kids practice hand sewing, or make it no-sew.

All you need is a piece of white felt and smaller scraps of a contrasting felt.

How to Make a Tooth Fairy Pillow

You need one piece of white felt for your tooth fairy pillow.

You can maybe get two very small pillows out of one piece of felt if you fold the long way, but even my thrifty self couldn’t justify making it that small.

When I’m doing a front and back, I always like to keep it simple and use the fold to my advantage. So, instead of cutting out two teeth and sewing them together, keep the fold at the top intact and only cut down the bottom. Less cutting, less sewing, and it gives it the right shape.

The shape is pretty simple, just mark down from the fold into two points and back up. Then, out of the other color felt, make a small tooth pocket for the front and a larger money pocket for the back.

To sew or not to sew?

Our kids love to sew, and we probably would have done this project quickly on a sewing machine. However, this was a cabin project for us and we didn’t have the sewing machine. No problem! Luckily, with help from Grandma, we just used a simple hand stitch and the kiddos learned how to do it as well.

You could definitely glue the pieces together and make this a completely no-sew project too!

The pockets need to be attached to the front and back of the tooth before the tooth is sewn together.

Then, sew around the edges, leaving enough room to stuff the pillow. After stuffing, just sew it all up and it’s done!

We added a little smile and the kiddos’ names to the pillows just to make it a little cuter. You could stitch these or use an iron on transfer before sewing the pillow.

We keep it simple and just use a Sharpie because we always have one nearby. Be careful of bleeding on the fuzzy felt. Considering we kept things handmade and far from perfect, we just went the easy route and it turned out fine!

It wasn’t long after the kids made their pillows that we had our first visit from the Tooth Fairy.

The little tooth was in the front pocket of the Tooth Fairy pillow when our Little Guy went to bed at night, and the money was in the pocket at the back when he woke up in the morning.

He was so excited!

His sister was excited for him and can’t wait to use her own Tooth Fairy pillow. She’s already started wiggling those bottom teeth!
