When I got this monogrammed burlap sign from Jodi at Successful Secrets I was so excited. I knew it would be the perfect gift for an upcoming wedding for our friends Chad and Sarah.
It just needed a frame. I knew I wanted something a little rustic to go with the burlap. I’ve also always wanted to grab a blow torch and get that great torch look on a piece of wood.
I grabbed some scrap pieces of pine from my dad’s workshop. It was perfect because it has so e great wood grain that would really pop with the torch effect.
It was so quick and easy. My dad actually held it out while I torched it. Not really as exciting and dangerous as I had thought.
It took a couple passes to gradually get it to where I wanted it. I didn’t want to start it on fire – which can happen. I also wanted to make sure it got dark enough to really stand out.
I made sure to get all of the edges, especially the outer and inner edges that would show. I also gave it some darker spots near the edges.
We then cut a piece of plywood to size and stretched the burlap over and stapled it to the back.
We then had the burlap stretched tight and could staple the covered plywood to the new frame.
Just a quick coat of spray poly and it was finished! Very simple project but such a great and personal gift for the new Mr. and Mrs.
We added a couple small things off their registry, a card, and a personalized note written on the back of the frame for the happy couple.
What do you think? Do you stick the the registry or try to think of something personal for the couple?
That frame looks AMAZING!!! I love it!!! I’m glad you liked the burlap monogram and of course I hope the lucky couple did as well!!! Oh and I love the card you sent me, you are so talented!
Love the effect! Looks great with the burlap, too!
its beautiful, I have to admit that I usually am not a stick to the registry kind of girl, I usually shoot for something personal.
I usually stick to the registry – because I know it’s things that they want/need – but this is so personal and unique! Anyone would love to get this as a gift 🙂
