Unconventional gift wrap: Wrapping oversized gifts with a Dollar Store table cloth, and embellishments

November 6, 2013
Am I the only person that scrambles to wrap a gift the day of an event? I have a HUGE supply of gift bags for all occasions, but what about those gifts that can’t be bagged? And, who has a ready supply of all-occasion wrapping paper – not this girl!

The fact that I don’t tend to buy the gift more than a day in advance may have something g to do with my problems, but the fact is, the times when I need a wedding gift, baby shower gift, etc are so few and far between I’m never prepared.

This past weekend I attended a baby shower and picked up a box of diapers and Bumbo Seat tray the day before.

I have NO bags for that combination! We also have nothing but Christmas and Birthday wrap, and the latter was a scramble to find the day before my daughters first birthday last weekend!

My solution? I grabbed one of the plastic table cloths from the dollar store off of the table for the birthday party, folded it into four, and wrapped!

It was a little plain to start.  Luckily, I had some Pampers travel wipes samples from Babies R Us that came with new parent cards with a lot of baby-related pictures in great colors.

I cut them out very quickly and taped them to the box. I also used the portion that read, “congrats.”

Those travel wipe samples included a newborn diaper in each, so they became my “bow.” I also decided it needed a real bow and a way to cover the awkward gap where they all fanned out. I made an awesome bow (which I learned from Ashlee) and placed the “congrats” sign inside to cover the space.

Perfect!

At least until my little one helped pull it all apart a couple times!

By the way, did I mention what else I did last weekend?

Bye bye 8 inches! You won’t be missed! You will go to someone who can love you much more than I ever could!

  1. What a great idea, It always seems like such a waste to use reams of wrapping paper (with a carefully sellotaped join of course!) You can use a whole roll on a big pressie and not everyone reuses paper like I do (bit of a joke in our house, I’m not a miser, I’m saving the planet one present at a time)
Inexpensive, effective, easy – what more could we ask of our gift wrapping!
