Urban Air Birthday Party – Coon Rapids

June 4, 2019

We had such a great time at Urban Air – Coon Rapids for Little Guy’s 8th birthday party. With a party host it was easy on the parents, and the kids never wanted to leave. Read all about the high and low points and what we think of an Urban Air Birthday Party

Summer Birthdays

As a December birthday myself, I always thought it would be great to have a summer birthday and be able to plan something when the weather is nice.

However, I never realized how difficult it can be to pull together a birthday after the kids are out of school! We have learned over the years that it saves a lot of headaches to send invites while the kids are still in school. It also helps to plan the party right after school is out. Too far into the summer and a lot of friends will be out of town or busy.

So, even though Little Guy’s birthday is at the end of June, we have gotten used to having his party the first weekend after school is out. For the last two years, this has worked the best for having a good turnout.

Urban Air Adventure Park – Coon Rapids

Our family had the pleasure of visiting Urban Air Adventure Park in Coon Rapids, MN during a MN Blogger Bash event. We had so much fun as a family, the kids are always asking when we can go back!

Urban Air Adventure Park is an indoor adventure park with much more than just trampolines. Each location is a franchise. So, when you visit you can feel good about supporting local business owners. Brandy, the owner at the Urban Air Coon Rapids, is amazing! In addition to trampolines, you can find climbing walls, rope courses, the sky rider coaster, and more.

Urban Air Birthday Party

For an 8-year-old birthday party, you can’t get much more perfect than an Urban Air Birthday Party! There is so much for the kids to do!

An Urban Air Birthday Party lasts two hours. You have three different party options and can have your party at tables with a shared host or in a private room with your own party host.

The basic package at a table with a shared host gets you the basic trampolines, 10 wristbands and socks, 10 bottles of water, 10 scratch-off favors, place settings, and a t-shirt for the birthday child. The deluxe package gives you all of that plus a few more of the attractions. The ultimate package gives you access to all the attractions. With any of the packages, you can add on the option of a private room which also adds 2 1-topping pizzas, your own party host, the option of utilizing the HDTV, and one jump pass for the birthday kiddo at a later date.

Our Urban Air Birthday Party

We set up our Urban Air Birthday Party about a month in advance. At that time, we were pretty open on times for the party.

Unfortunately, even with booking a month in advance we weren’t made aware that our party would overlap with the sensory sensitive hours during the first Sunday of every month. As someone who worked with kiddos with autism for years, I love that they offer this to families. As a mom who just sent out invitations, planned rides, and prepared everything, I wasn’t thrilled to hear this the week before.

Fortunately even with no music and lights for the first hour, we didn’t notice much of a difference between that and the second hour when they were on. I think in cases like that, they could just use the tvs to play some music inside the room for more of a party vibe. Regardless, the kids never noticed. We even had one of the sweetest encounters with a boy name Jacob who asked if the Jacob at our party also had autism. So sweet!

Waivers

One of the more difficult things as the party host is making sure everyone has signed waivers. Fortunately, there are a few options…

First, if you are close enough and all the parents will be dropping the kids off at your Urban Air birthday party, it’s not really a problem. Parents can each step up to the various tablets at the front and sign right there.

Second, there is a link to sign the waiver online. If you are transporting all the kiddos like we did, you can send this out to them and get it signed ahead of time. Then, as long as you have the parent’s phone number, you can find them all quickly with the party host like we did. You can also find them with the child’s full name and birth date, which we had to do with one child. If you are able to call a parent who forgot, it goes through the system very quickly.

Third, if you are unable to get a parent to sign the waiver, there is the option to sign a one-day waiver. The adult who signs it will be responsible for the child that day only.

I was happy to see we would have been covered no matter what and wouldn’t have had to turn a child away.

Party Room

After our wonderful party host, Emily, helped me get everyone check in she took us to our room. Inside the room she helped fit everyone for Urban Air socks and wristbands.

The rooms are bright and colorful and also included a table runner, place settings, a happy birthday sign, and balloons.

The kids were bouncing off the wall at this point until Emily yelled, “freeze!” Everyone stared at her as if they were in trouble until she then said, “go play!”

We followed the kids right out of the room and when we got out the door they had already vanished! They were so excited!

Attractions

The daredevil kids headed right for the Sky Rider Coaster. They strap them into a harness and send them like a zip line around in the air. It looks like so much fun! A lot of the kiddos played in the climbing area attached to the Sky Rider Coaster for a while too.

The kids scattered and were all over the place. I have no idea what they did next. However, I did see plenty on the trampolines, one on the Ropes Course, and some at the basketball trampolines. One of the biggest hits is always the warrior course with obstacles to cross over a large ball pit. They love that one and stayed there for quite some time!

Urban Air Birthday Party Dodge ball Game

One of the fun things about an Urban Air Birthday Party is a chance for the whole birthday party to get called together for their own private dodge ball game. I didn’t know how much they would want to do this, but the kids loved it!

Emily – our party host – is so great. She warned us adults to make our way over there before she made the announcement for the kids. Then, she split them into teams and let them have at it. While they were playing, she got the food ready and called them back to the room.

Urban Air Birthday Party Food

With a private party comes two 1-topping pizzas. This is perfect for the kids. We added on two pizzas to make sure we had enough and to feed the adults. It cost $26 for two more pizzas and we ended up taking a full pizza home with us. The pizza is pretty tasty so we were all happy for the leftovers. If you’re wondering about their “ground beef pizza” – it’s great! Just call it a sausage and the kids will never know the difference.

Besides the water bottles for each jumper, no other food or drink is provided. You are not permitted to bring in other food, but you can add-on more food options. (I do have to say, they didn’t bat an eye when one of our diabetic friends came with her own cooler and food, though.) You can bring in your own cake or cupcakes because they are not provided.

Emily was sweet enough to find us some candles and a lighter, because I didn’t even think about it! It was awesome they had them on hand. Regularly, they are not provided either, so it’s something to remember!

Two hours is not enough!

First, none of the kids wanted to quit playing even though they were all hungry for pizza. Each of them were asking if there would be more time for jumping.

I knew, from talking about the sensory hour, that Urban Air Coon Rapids does not allow eating first because they don’t want the kids to get sick. So, pizza time is also pretty much the end of the party.

Some of the kids did decide to skip cupcakes in favor of more playtime, but they also missed the group picture because we couldn’t get them off the Sky Rider Coaster. Speaking of the photo, if your child would like to they can have their picture taken with Urbie, the Urban Air mascot. Little Guy opted not to, but it would have been pretty cute.

When we finally got the kids back together, there were a lot of little voices saying, “I want to stay” and “do we have to go already?” Always the sign of a good party! I do wish the party could include 2 full hours of jump time and maybe an additional half hour of dining time. However, I did think ahead and leave the gifts at our house because I knew the kids wouldn’t want to spend that much time away from the attractions.

When the party was over, I went to the front to get the bill squared away and add a tip for our wonderful party host! As I was doing that, each kid got a “party favor” which is a card with a scratch off. The ones I saw were an extra hour of play, buy one get one 1/2 off, and things like that.

Urban Air Birthday Party Thoughts

This was one of our most fun birthday parties to date!

Like the Minnesota Children’s Museum birthday party, it was nice to have all the details like setup and cleanup taken care of. It was nice that the Minnesota Children’s Museum provided a little more in the way of drinks, cake, and candles. However, our party host at Urban Air Coon Rapids really helped run the show! She kept everything on schedule, served all of the food, and took care of everything!

It’s nice to save some money and have a party at home. I’m still pretty darn proud of how fun our Spy Party turned out! But you just can’t beat having the party away from home and not having to worry about the details.

Our Urban Air Birthday Party in Coon Rapids, MN was SO much fun! The kids had an amazing time. Our host took care of everything. It all went so smoothly. Best of all, the kiddos we worn out at the end. What more could you ask for!?

Make sure to visit the Urban Air Coon Rapids website to book your own Urban Air Birthday Party. You won’t regret it!

  1. I’m excited to host my daughter’s party here but am a little disappointed with their invitations. I’m inviting kids from my daughter’s class and don’t have their parent’s phone numbers. So will be buying personalized invitations and the. Adding all of their information on them. To make this experience easier on the parents, they should offer printed invitations.

    1. Good point! I already had most of the parents’ phone numbers, so it was simple to get in touch and send out the evites. I think there were two parents I did have to pass a note to through the teacher so she could give them my number/email.

I do love a printed invitation being provided too like we had for our last party at Goldfish Swim School. It would be nice if one was provided for sure.
