Tell us about your family
My husband, daughter, and I recently moved from one coast to the other, and we are loving the change. While hub and I both work full-time, we manage to strike that work-family balance despite the usual challenges that arise with that lifestyle.
As a mom, what is the best part of your day?
The best part of my day is when my baby (now 18 months) first wakes up and I get to see her and give her big cuddles.
3 Words that describe your parenting style?
creative, research-based, loving
What is a parenting rule you never break?
Never going back on my word! She could be in the middle of an epic tantrum, but if I said “No more stars (snack). Stars all gone”, then those stars are gone, and we distract to something else. It’s not always easy, however!
How do you prioritize family-time and me-time?
This is something I think about often. For many mothers, it seems like holding onto your identity prior to motherhood is important. For me, motherhood has completely transformed my being. I am such a part of my experience as a mother that whatever my identity as a woman was in the past is irrelevant. “Me-time” is family time; that is what I love. It’s what gets me through my day. Not everybody can or should do that, though. Our personalities are so varied. I am also not a stay-at-home mother, so I’m positive many women who are stay-at-home moms would feel differently. Sure, I enjoy having a break every now and then, but I miss my baby within 5 minutes of dropping her off at daycare or with nana. It’s ridiculous. LOL
What is your go-to, easy weeknight meal?
I have one of those rare items called a Husband Who Loves to Cook. I have always been a terrible cook and I hate cooking, so I hit the jackpot. He does all the cooking and he loves it, so win-win!
What is your favorite family activity?
Out little one is still under two so we’re still fairly new to this game, but I’d say my favorite family activity is reading with the baby. She loves books and likes to “read to us”, too. It’ a very sweet experience.
How do you balance work and home life?
I decided when I was pregnant that I would prioritize this type of balance for the emotional health of my family. So I made the choice to dedicate my 8 or so hours of work AT work, and leave it there. I never take work home with me. When I’m home with my family, I’m present. I give them the gift of my attention, and I expect the same respect from them.
Family Travel: What is your favorite spot or family travel memory?
When the baby was 7 and 8 months old, we took her to Disneyland. She couldn’t stop laughing at Minnie Mouse and we have gorgeous photos of her hugging Minnie.

What is your best Mom money-saving tip?
Love me some Prime! Amazon Prime is such a great investment; it pays for itself. Also, the Cartwheel app and Red Target Card saved me over $200 last year on my regular Target runs. Winning!
Do you make a point to stay healthy and fit? If so, how do you fit it into your busy lifestyle?
Mental health is very important in my day-to-day existence. I practice meditation when I wake up and just before going to bed (which usually sends me off to slumber … and that’s okay!). Thoughts have physical manifestations, especially at the molecular level. Just think about when you had a baby. If you breastfed, would you not lactate even just thinking about feeding your baby? Does your mouth water if you think about lemon juice being squeezed onto your tongue? Our thoughts are not merely thought: they bring about action. This is why being present in the now and practicing meditation is so crucial for success in my day and life, especially because I lead a busy lifestyle.
What advice would you give new moms?
You are enough. If you try your best at this brave new world of motherhood, then you’re giving your all, and that’s all that matters. Ask for help from family if you can!
