Let’s give 2020-2021 the sendoff it deserves! We made it through and our kiddos deserve a celebration to make this year for the history books. Here is how to add some special touches for a distance learning graduation, and how to end the year on a high note!

This was such a year for our kiddos.
No matter what you chose for learning, this was one heck of a ride.
For our family, we committed to an entire year of distance learning.
I’m glad we did. Instead of being in school two days a week, switching to full distance learning, and back to school 2 days a week like the rest of our district, we opted for consistencey.
It wasn’t without it’s challenges.
I work from home, and the kids miss their friends. Also, we had Dad end up home after a snowmobile accident in February. It’s a full house right now!

I’m so proud of these kids!
Aren’t our kids amazing?
If this year has taught us all anything, it’s that we can do things we may have never thought we could.
Back when the kids were little, I used to consider homeschooling just to have our own schedule and be able to travel.
However, I quickly nixed that idea because I didn’t think we could spend all day everyday together without some of us going crazy. (me, probably)
This year, we did that.
It’s been over a year and my amazing kiddos have relied on only each other for playmates. They have had only Mom to help with school work. We’ve all eaten breakfast together, worked together, eaten lunch together, worked some more, played and spent time together, etc…
The kids who bickered constantly and had me feeling weary about even summer vacations, have stuck it out and spent time with only each other for more than a year.
I’m so amazed by them.

They deserve a distance learning graduation!
With all they have been through over the past year, our kids deserve to celebrate.
They have been wonderful. We’re actually grateful for the things this year taught us, but we’re hoping this is our last experience with distance learning.
We are thinking positive about next year, and no matter what it brings, we can celebrate that they made it through this crazy year!
So, we’re celebrating with a distance learning graduation.
Distance Learning Graduation special touches
There are a lot of cute little touches you can add to make a Distance Learning Graduation more than just another day. Just little things that you’re kids will think is pretty special, and let them know how proud you are.
Graduation cap peanut butter cups
These are so easy and cute. With a mini Reese’s peanut butter cup, a square of black construction paper, and a little tassel you can have a little graduation cap candy. The tassel just takes a small piece of embroidery floss doubled with a knot at the fold and another knot near the end to fray and create the tassel. Then, just glue them all together for a cute treat.
You’re one smart cookie
This is an easy one! You can create or buy a little cookie bag and write “you’re one smart cookie” on the front. Or you can, of course, buy some already made on Etsy. I actually cut the bottom of a paper lunch bag and cut in the center to make two after gluing one of the open sides.
Grad cap snack box
This is a cute and easy one too. You can make this little snack box entirely out of paper, or you can cover a little snack cup you already have. It’s a fun little touch for snack time on the last day of school. You can also buy little graduation candy boxes, which may be a little smaller but still just as fun.
Graduation banner
You can’t beat a banner. So simple, but it sets the tone that it’s a celebration. We love our little black banner that we can customize with chalk. You can find a similar one that has a little glitter or one with a slightly different shape. There are plenty of graduation banners to purchase as well. I really like this banner that has space for pictures from throughout the year.
Graduation hats and masks
Paper graduation hats are a staple for preschool graduation parties. Since this is a distance learning graduation party, it also make sense to customize a little graduation mask too. Why not? You can, pretty inexpensively, buy a real graduation cap on Amazon and even some graduation masks.
Diploma
What would a graduation be without a diploma. You can have it say whatever you want. You can also just make it a fun activity for the kids. The key is to roll it up and tie it with a ribbon so it looks legit.
Distance Learning Graduation Announcements
One thing I’m super excited about are the idea of distance learning graduation announcements.
Why not commemorate this year with a photo card?
You can keep it for your memory box, share with grandparents, or even family since you haven’t been able to see anyone in so long.
Basic Invite has some great options for all sorts of graduation announcements. They have nearly unlimited color options, so you can get really creative and custom with them.
If you want to find graduation invitations cheap Basic Invite is a good resource. Currently, they are offering 15% off with coupon code: 15FF51 . They have everything from nursing graduation invitations to graduation announcements college.
I had so much fun picking out a couple different styles for the kids distance learning graduation announcements. You can order samples first so that you know if your card is exactly how you want it. So, I got a couple different cards.
I love the “Then” and “Now” card with pictures of the kids from the first day with their clean desk compared to the mess at the end of the year.
I’m also feeling very clever about the “Oh the places you’ll go” card and adding “when you can finally go places.” So just indulge me on that one!

End of the year activities
The end of the year is such a fun time at school. We can try to add a little of that end of the school year magic to our distance learning at home.
Theme Days. One of the fun things about the last couple weeks of school is often some fun theme days. Adding some themes is always fun – a beach day, spy day, etc. are always a hit.
Learn Outside. Taking the learning outside on beautiful days at the end of the year, is part of the fun. Set up a little distance learning area outside for a subject or two, or the entire day.
Field Trip. Most of our kiddos will be missing their end of the year field trips. It’s a shame… With most of us trying to stay home and distanced, we have to get creative there. Find an outdoor area and make a big deal about how it’s a Field Trip. Just pump it up and make it special, the kids will love it!
Field Day. With a little creativity and planning, a Field Day is an easy one to do at home. Have the kids wear different colored shirts, come up with a few activities, and make a day out of it. It’s pretty easy to pull together a foot race, jump rope or hula hoop competition, crab walk, relay, or obstacle course. You can even get an outdoor game kit with supplies for potato sack races, egg and spoon, bean bags, etc. Bonus points if you find a little trophy, create a ribbon, or medal and have a cute little award ceremony.
