Tell us about your family

My little family is made up of one very hardworking man, myself, and our very, very busy little boy, and we’re hoping to add another little one to the craziness soon.

As a mom, what is the best part of your day?

“Daddy’s home” is the best part of my day as a mother.

From the moment we all wake up to the chaos the day brings, to bedtime is filled with moments that fill me up and make me laugh and moments that stretch me thin and test my patience. But when my husband walks through that door it’s like a flood of relief flows over myself and my son – our moods lighten, I get a bit of a break, and we all enjoy just being together.

3 Words that describe your parenting style?

Try. Learn. Equip.

My goal is to try new parenting methods and new ways of doing things until we find something that works for us.I try to remember that every day

I’m not the only one learning new things as a first-time mom, my son is learning everything for the first time too. Remembering this helps me extend extra grace and patience not only to my son but to myself, too.

The things I teach my son, even from this young age, will shape him into the man he will one day become and will equip him for life away from home.

What is a parenting rule you never break?

Putting my marriage first.

I believe one of the most important things I can do to help my son – and future children – succeed in life is to show them by example what a healthy relationship looks like. (I can’t say I “never break” this one, but I sure do try.)

What is a parenting rule you always break?

No screen time.

Before becoming a mom I set this rule for myself and was determined to have no screen time in my child’s life, at least for the first few years.

It didn’t take long before that rule was thrown out the window. Turns out, as a wife, mom, and business owner, some days turning on Little Baby Bum is the only way I can keep my sanity in-tact.

How do you prioritize family-time and me-time?

As exhausted as I can be some days, I’ve made it my goal to wake up before the rest of my family, when possible.

Some days I just need the extra sleep, but most days I try to set my alarm at least 30 minutes before the rest of the house wakes up so I can read my Bible and get some much needed “me time” to start my day off right.

Prioritizing family-time comes easy for us, we try not to put too much on our plates so that we can spend most evenings together relaxing as a family. When we start to get too busy and feel the disconnect, we cancel plans and spend the day as a family.

What is your go-to, easy weeknight meal?

My go-to easy weeknight meal would have to be breakfast for dinner. It’s a hit with everyone in the family and it’s so, so simple to make (especially when we use the Costco pancake batter.)

What is your favorite family activity?

Going for walks in the evening.

I love watching the sunset go down as we get fresh air and get out of the house, even if it’s a little chilly and we have to bundle up.

What do you do when you need a break?

I break the “no screen rule” I set for myself, turn on a show, and sneak off to my room to read a chapter of a book, take a quick shower, or just take a few minutes to breathe.

Do you have any tips for staying on top of household chores?

I’ve learned to let go of the idea of a perfect house and to be okay with “good enough”.

I try to keep our house clean enough by doing small cleaning jobs throughout the day. If I’m playing in the living room with my son, I’ll fold a load of laundry or vacuum the kitchen/living room/dining room floors or quickly dust. While making breakfast, I’ll wipe counter tops, quickly wash a few dishes, empty the dishwasher, etc.

What advice would you give new moms?

This too shall pass.

Each stage of motherhood passes so quickly, even though at the moment it feels like one thing may drag on forever. Your baby won’t always be colicky. Your toddler will grow out of their tantrums. Your child won’t always need you the way they need you right now.
