Better Chocolate Choices you can make
Now, I have no problem with enjoying the treat you desire – it usually has much better results than when you try to deny yourself! Although, for myself, I definitely feel a bit unsatisfied with the serving sizes of traditional candy or chocolate.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a Pinterest board labeled Better Chocolate Choices. It’s that important to me!
Over time, I’ve come up with a few that do the trick and allow me to have a bit more and feel more satisfied. Usually, as an added bonus, they are full of other fantastic ingredients that I can feel good about.
So, here are a few of my favorites! Plus, Gatsby Chocolate, which I’m super excited about! No work for me and chocolate that satisfies without feeling like I sabotaged my whole day.
Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies
This is my go-to to make ahead for when chocolate cravings hit. That’s probably because we always have bananas getting too ripe and this is the perfect recipe to use up old bananas!
Does anyone else find their family going through bananas like crazy only to buy more and watch them sit and turn black?
With a couple ripe bananas, some oats, cocoa and mini chocolate chips – you’re in business!
I will say, an added bonus to this treat is that the rest of the family doesn’t enjoy it like I do. In fairness, I have told them all repeatedly, “remember, this is just baked oatmeal, you don’t really like it.” So, I can’t remember the last time anyone actually tried one, but that’s the way I’m going to keep it!
Treats the rest of the family doesn’t take over are few and far between!

Dark Chocolate Seed Bark
This better chocolate choice is full of all sorts of healthy goodies. It’s also completely delicious and addicting!
The toasty taste of all the nuts and seeds mixed with the rich and decadent dark chocolate, coffee, and coconut oil is amazing!
This is something I haven’t made in a while, but with walnuts being the only ingredient I don’t regularly have in the house, there is no reason not to!
You’ll love how satisfying this sweet treat is with the filling and super healthy ingredients. It’s fantastic!

Sweet Potato Mini Cake
Ok, so this doesn’t have a lot of chocolate – and doesn’t even sound like it goes with chocolate all that much – but hear me out!
One of the yummiest recipes that can be a treat, snack, or even breakfast is this sweet potato mini cake.
I shared a similar recipe that included pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice waaayy back. That is fantastic too, and perfect for Fall, but I usually make it with two sweet potatoes instead of the pumpkin. I should definitely share that recipe sometimes too.
The reason I include this in these Better Chocolate Choices is because the cake is made of sweet potato, coconut oil, brown rice flour, and I add a small square of dark chocolate to the center. When you eat your little ramekin cake warm, the chocolate adds a melty surprise in the center.
So good!

Gatsby Chocolate
Wait until you try Gatsby Chocolate! This is a find I’m so excited about. It’s so tasty, and I couldn’t believe it when I read the nutrition information!
Have you heard of Halo Top – the ice cream that has a variety of fun flavors but still happens to come in much lower on sugar and calorie count? One of the cofounders is also responsible for Gatsby Chocolate, so you know it’s going to be good.
Gatsby Chocolate products have two to three times less sugar compared to other premium chocolate. How they do it, I don’t know, but Gatsby’s Sea Salt Extra Dark Chocolate is 60 calories per serving and the Almond Dark is 70 calories per serving – and the servings are small!
Right away the kids wanted to make sure I shared all the Gatsby chocolate evenly, but I had to set them straight right away! “This is mom’s chocolate and I might be nice enough to share it with you.”
Needless to say, we all had our eyes on the Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. They clock in at only 50 calories per cup and they did no disappoint! They are creamy, tasty, and I will absolutely be looking to buy more.
My favorite might be the Sea Salt Extra Dark. It’s so salty and delicious. I love how it makes me want to take small bites and savor each one. Definitely slows me down and I don’t have a problem stopping at one serving (1/3 of the bar) – well, not much of a problem…
The Almond Dark Chocolate is also good. There are tiny pieces of almonds in there, but you definitely get that almond flavor.
You can’t go wrong with any of these! I highly recommend checking them out!
