For the past few years, we’ve been doing a homemade gift exchange with my parents. All of us, kids included, draw a name and make a homemade gift for one person. They have been so much fun!
This year, I got my dad’s name. He is so difficult! He can basically make anything. His past gifts have been nightstand shelves, a gorgeous round picture from from an old window frame (another part from the one used for this round shelf), and a stunning wooden sign with a cutout of our lake up at the cabin. He’s far too talented, so it’s a little intimidating.
DIY ‘Working Hands’ Gift
I thought on it for a while, and decided to do something for his working hands. I made a gift set with a soap scrub, lotion bars, essential oils cuts and scrapes roller, and some coffee hand scrub.
With the lotion bars coming in a close second, the coffee hand scrub is my favorite! My son and I – notorious for rough hands – had some of the softest hands for Christmas time.
The coffee scrub is so easy to make, without a lot of crazy ingredients, so it’s such a great option for a special DIY gift. Pop it inside a custom coffee mug with a cute towel, and you have something so easy but really special.

Custom Coffee Mug
The thing to rave about here is how adorable this large, glass coffee mug is!
I picked the saying “hello brew-tiful” and I think it’s so cute! But, can you imagine how special this gift would be personalized to the person? You can get any custom name, monogram, saying, etc. specific to your person to add that extra special touch to this gift.
I could also see these being amazing gifts for a wedding party to sip from as they get ready, favors at a shower, anniversary gift, teacher gift, wedding or housewarming gift, etc… There are so many options! A personalized custom coffee much with a name or date would be really touching.
Plus, this is my absolute favorite mug. It’s nice and large at 18oz and it feels and looks great. The engraving is perfect and adorable! I especially love how it shows up even more as it’s filled with coffee!
Etsy for the win!
This awesome glass, custom coffee mug comes from UrbanFarmhouseTampa on Etsy and they were so easy to work with!
There are a couple design choices to choose from, or you can go off the rails and get something completely custom like I did. I just found a saying I liked and described what I was thinking. In no time, this design was sent back for my approval, and I was thrilled!
The mug is a great size, nice and thick but not too heavy, and the etched phrase is so cute! It’s definitely a fantastic gift anyone would be thrilled to receive.

Custom Coffee Mug and DIY Coffee Scrub
This cute little gift comes together so easily!
The mug itself is a show stopper and so personal. The glass mug and custom engraving elevate it past your typical coffee mug.
Then, to add a little something extra, all you have to do is throw in a cute towel and nestle in the DIY coffee scrub. It just pulls it together into an adorable little gift!
DIY Coffee Scrub
We know I like a project that is quick and easy. Plus, if I don’t have to buy a crazy amounts of ingredients, that’s a major plus.
In this case, the coffee scrub comes together with just 5 ingredients – two of them being just for scent. However, the coffee itself smells amazing and I don’t even feel like extra scent is necessary. Therefore, you can absolutely make this with 3 ingredients!
Coffee
The first ingredient is, of course, coffee. I used some regular coffee grounds we had for the first time around. Then, when I made a second batch, I’m not gonna lie, I just opened up two of our used k-cups and let them dry a bit. I mean, why not! What a great way to re-use something you’re going to throw out.
Sugar
The second ingredient is brown sugar. I like the warm sound of a brown sugar coffee scrub, but really any sugar would do. The sugar will, of course, dissolve a bit which is why I made sure the coffee grounds were dry. It also helps to mix the oils in with the coffee and then add the sugar, or more sugar, at the end.
Oil
So far, the first two ingredients are things you probably have on-hand. The third ingredient I used was almond oil. It’s something I had, but you can also use something like coconut oil if you tend to keep that in your pantry. It will change the scent a bit but probably be pretty fantastic.

Optional ingredients are essential oils in your favorite complimentary scents. I went for cinnamon and orange when I first made this because they feel very Christmas-y. I also added them this time, but to be honest the smell of the coffee is my favorite part!
Mix all the ingredients up in your favorite jar and you’re done! I like to use a chopstick for mixing because it seems to move things around the best without compacting it together. Then, just wipe that chopstick clean with your hands, scrub, rinse, and you have soft hands and a fantastic coffee scrub gift!
