Tell us about your family
I live in an old renovated farmhouse in the Philly suburbs with my husband Tyler, my 2.5 year old son Theodore (Teddy), my 8 month old Daughter Scotland (Scottie) and our yellow lab Mauti. I used to be an art teacher and museum educator but now I am a curriculum specialist and blogger.
As a mom, what is the best part of your day?
For me the best part is putting the kids to bed. It’s so nice to enjoy some quiet calm time with each kid individually after a crazy day. The baby goes to bed first and I love holding her and rocking her. Then Teddy goes to bed and it’s one of the only times where we’re able to give him our undivided attention and read him books and lay with him. Then of course once everyone is finally asleep that’s nice too. 😉
3 Words that describe your parenting style?
Gentle, Creative and Authoritative
What is a parenting rule you always break?
I have such a hard time saying no to snacks when Teddy says “Can I share a snack with you?”
How do you prioritize family-time and me-time?
I send the kids to daycare two days a week so I have two days a week to do work, blog, run errands, clean the house, take a shower, eat lunch in front of the TV and enjoy a little bit of quiet in the house.
What is your go-to, easy weeknight meal?
Tacos. We always have beans, corn, cheese and tortillas and rotisserie chicken on hand and who doesn’t love tacos?
What is your favorite family activity?
Hide and seek. Teddy and Scottie both laugh so hard when you “find” them.
What advice would you give new moms?
Get out of the house even when it’s the last thing you want to do. I still struggle with this. It can be really isolating if you don’t get out and get around other people. Storytimes at the local library and play dates with friends were the best. I always feel better after getting a little fresh air and feel more energized when I’m not inside the house all day.
Do you have a “Mom Hack” you can’t live without?
I recently started a toy rotation which has helped reduce the clutter in our house so much. The toys that are out are arranged on low shelves and in Montessori-ish ways to promote engagement. (ie. puzzle pieces in a basket next to the puzzle instead of being already competed). Teddy has been playing with his toys longer and there are less toys to scatter around the house.
Family Travel: What is your favorite spot or family travel memory?
We took Teddy to San Francisco when he was 1 and it was the best time. We went to so many different museums, parks and beaches. I loved seeing how much fun he had everywhere we went.
Do you have a can’t-live-without Mom/family products to share?
We LOVED the Binxy Baby shopping cart hammock. It made grocery shopping so much easier and I cant imagine grocery shopping with a toddler and a newborn without it.
