No Spend March {Week 3} Calling it quits!

March 20, 2015

That’s it! I’m done!

My No Spend Month is coming to a halt after three weeks.  In all fairness, I did say this was just an experiment and my main goal was to make it a couple weeks.

No Spend Month - March

Why I’m a big fat quitter

  • This was a complete spur of the moment decision, and I would plan a little better in the future
  • I really am super frugal by nature and I was missing some moments that would have actually saved me a little money
  • Eating from our freezer was great, but we were running out of fresh produce and I’m focusing on planning and my health right now
  • I’ll admit I was having some withdrawals and needed a trip to Aldi (cart full of fresh foods for only $60) and Goodwill (5 healthy cookbooks for a dollar, and some Easter basket fillers for $4)

Healthy cookbooks

I’m actually super happy with how it went for so many reasons!

  • This time forced me to plan meals and make sure nothing went to waste.  We threw zero food out so far in March!
  • I realized I definitely want to try this again.  I may try to cut my weekly grocery trips to every 2-3 weeks.
  • It got me thinking about items we can purge for some extra cash
  • I got creative with my money – shopped at Kohls with Kohls Cash, emptied my DietBet account to purchase Microsoft Office and T25
  • It got me thinking of other areas we can save – I plan to make a batch of Laundry Soap this week, and maybe try my hand at Dish Detergent, body wash, and shampoo

Overall, I had such a good time with this experiment! I may be ducking out early, but I have learned a lot and will definitely repeat it again in the future!!

What do you think? Could you make it a full month?

  1. I have to say, I admire you for even trying. I could maybe manage a no spend weekend (maybe), but a no spend MONTH? Ain’t gonna happen. I’m far too much like my mother – the happy spendaholic, so I do need to be thriftier, but my philosophy is that life is to be enjoyed and I’m not going to enjoy it if I am spending all my time worrying about every penny. I do think I need to focus on better shopping habits. It seems like I spend so much on groceries, but there’s never anything to EAT in this house. I think that’s going to be a better way to focus my energies.
