Tell us about your family

Our family is myself, my husband and our 20 month old daughter, Elliott.

My husband and I met online and dated long distance (UK to Sydney, Australia) for around two years before he moved to my sunny country. Having our daughter was a whirlwind and quite shocking as due to pre-eclampsia, she was born 2 months early at 32 weeks gestation.

Suffering from postpartum depression wasn’t supposed to be apart of the package but with the support of my husband and awesome follow up care from my mental health team, I was able to slowly recover.

As a mom, what is the best part of your day?

The best part of my day is absolutely morning time! Waking up my daughter (or hearing her singing in the morning) brings me so much joy. Seeing her eating her breakfast happily while I’m drinking my coffee, definitely the best part of my day.

3 Words that describe your parenting style?

Respectful, fun, adaptive

What is a parenting rule you never break?

No spanking or hitting my child, ever.

What is a parenting rule you always break?

No TV 😅

How do you prioritize family-time and me-time?

It’s a lot easier now that my daughter has fallen into a more predictable nap time routine. When she’s asleep, it’s time for me to work on either my blog or spend time relaxing with my husband.

What is your go-to, easy weeknight meal?

We have lots! Shakshuka (eggs baked in a tomato-ey sauce) is always a hit. As is homemade veggie pizza or peanut satay stir fry.

What is your favorite family activity?

Going to the zoo! Absolutely our favourite past time. Our local zoo is only ten minutes away and we have a year round pass, making it very accessible. If we are looking for something even more local, we’ll pop over to the local duck pond and say hello to the duckies.

What advice would you give new moms?

I’d say to new mothers to not expect themselves or their lives to ever “bounce back”.

Have grace with yourself and know that you may never “get back” what you once had. Whether that’s a figure, a lifestyle or a way of thinking.

And that’s okay.

You’ve gained a human being.

Do you have a “Mom Hack” you can’t live without?

When you need a break, order groceries online instead of going to the store. Use that time instead to take yourself to get coffee/a café.
