Worry when it comes: how to live in the moment and enjoy the now

September 16, 2015

I am forever the optimist.

As I see it, you can worry everyday until you know you have a reason or things get better, or you can keep your spirits up and deal with it when it comes. My friends always came to me because, as they put it, “nothing bothers you.”

Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but I do know my outlook on life has saved me some unnecessary worry and pain.

Worry when it comes: how to live in the moment and enjoy the now

One of my favorite quotes: “Worry never robs tomorrow of it’s pain, it only saps today of it’s joy.”

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. - living in the moment

I also love one I heard recently about if it hurts more to walk slowly into a brick wall or running straight through it. There surely could be better analogies, but I understand the meaning. Would you rather anticipate the pain all the way through or go quickly into the pain when it’s time?

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit lately. My grandmother is in the hospital and, while this very well could be the end, I am so grateful with the morning I had with her. I wouldn’t change the chance to enjoy some time with her without being clouded by worry of what the future holds.

I wish I could magically give this outlook to all of my family and friends, because I know it isn’t easy for others.

I have no magic way to take away your pain and worry expect to say:

Pain is inevitable, but you don’t get back those moments that you let pain and worry consume you.

I choose to enjoy life, keep it light, and take things as they come.

How about you? Are you a worrier or do you take things as they come as well?
