Tell us about your family

I live with my husband and our almost three year old feisty daughter! We also have a black lab.

As a mom, what is the best part of your day?

Our daughter is especially sweet at bedtime. We have a good routine down which includes lot of snuggles. I love hearing her say, “goodnight, I love you mommy” each night as I leave her room.

3 Words that describe your parenting style?

Compassionate, Positive, Consistent

What is a parenting rule you never break?

Letting my daughter sleep with us. We eased up on it for a while and no one slept well. We were all grumpy and terrible the next day. I realized it wasn’t fair to her to have different rules depending on my mood. We started being more consistent with putting her back in her bed and we are all better for it.

What is a parenting rule you always break?

Letting my toddler sit on my lap at meals. I try to break the habit, but she’s just so dang sweet and just wants me! Either me or my husband usually cave!

How do you prioritize family-time and me-time?

My husband and I are blessed with great friends and hobbies outside of each other. We are supportive of each other when it’s time for a girl’s night / guys night / etc. and know that having that time makes us better partners and parents.

What is your go-to, easy weeknight meal?

Brinner! When I can’t think of anything else, we always do breakfast for dinner. It’s usually eggs or breakfast burritos because they are so easy and we always have the ingredients on hand.

What is your favorite family activity?

We love getting outside and going on adventures together. There is a cute brewery near our house that is outdoors and has goats the kids can feed. It’s fun to go there and let my daughter run around and feed the goats.

What advice would you give new moms?

Be kind to yourself. Don’t put pressure on yourself to get it all right or do it all. Being a new mom is a totally new job and it takes time to learn your baby and learn what kind of mom you want to be.

I’d also say to trust your gut and parent how you think is best. I felt insecure as a new mom and struggled knowing if I was making the “right” decisions. I’ve learned to trust myself and know that it’s okay to do things differently than my friends.

Do you have a “Mom Hack” you can’t live without?

Getting on a good sleep routine early! We did Babywise from the start and it has made all the difference. When my daughter was younger she slept 7 to 7 every night. It was wonderful to have the evenings free to relax and wind down and still not be up super early in the morning.

What do you do when you need a break?

I message some girl friends and try to meet up asap. Motherhood can feel so lonely and isolating. There are plenty of days where I feel like I am the only one struggling. When I get together with other moms, I realize we are all in the same boat!

What is your best Mom money-saving tip?

Having a budget has been huge for us! People think it restricts you, but it actually gives you permission to spend.

Do you have any tips for staying on top of household chores?

My husband and I take turns doing bedtime while the other one cleans up. If there is more cleaning that needs to be done after that, I set a timer for 15 minutes and do as much as I can. I stop when the timer goes off and that way I don’t feel like all I do is clean.

Do you have a can’t-live-without Mom/family products to share?

The Dohm sound machine! My daughter has one and so do me and my husband and it helps us sleep so well!
