It’s the first week of school here. Well, the first three days of school, with four days next week, and the first full week after that. However, our kiddos have been rock stars! They have been so excited that they are dressed and ready to go early. When they get home, they are full of news to share.

To celebrate a fantastic couple days, I have a treat for them! We don’t have ice cream too often at home. When we do have it, it’s special and usually includes a little bit of sprinkles. However, this time, we’re getting fancy. Without much more effort either!

It is so easy to make these fancy ice cream toppers. They make a celebratory ice cream a little more special. It is also a perfect way to serve ice cream for a group and dress it up a bit.

Once Again Organic Amore Almond Butter Spread

For all of these fancy ice cream toppings I used Once Again Organic Amore Almond Butter Spread. It is so incredibly delicious with a decadent chocolate flavor. In addition, we feel even better about it because it is Certified Gluten-Free, Non-GMO Verified, Certified Organic, and part of the brand’s Honest In Trade program.

The benefit of using a spread instead of melted chocolate is that it has the chance to melt a little bit over the ice cream and is easier to eat.

I could eat this stuff right out of the jar! The nice thing about making these pretty ice cream toppers is that Mom gets to lick the spoon.

Super Easy! Fancy Ice Cream Toppers

These are so simple, but they make such a beautiful impression. Instead of drizzling your toppings over the ice cream, spread them on some parchment paper and freeze them.

That’s all there is to it!

This way, you can stand them up in the dish and make a pretty little presentation. You can leave them in a simple dollop or spread, or even get fancy with the shape of your paper while freezing to make it really something special. We like how the spread quickly softens and forms to the top of the ice cream. However, if you want it to really stand up and keep it’s shape, go with regular chocolate.

Just to get you started, here are 5 of our favorite flavor combinations to try!

Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate and Sprinkles fancy ice cream topper

Chocolate with Sprinkles

As I mentioned, our kiddos are partial to sprinkles. What kids aren’t? This is possibly to the most simple of our fancy ice cream toppings. Just spread some of your chocolate spread on a piece of parchment paper and top with sprinkles before freezing. When solid, place it right on top of the ice cream. The kids will love it!

Vanilla ice cream with chocolate and nuts fancy ice cream topper

Chocolate with Nuts

Being that we are using an almond spread with milk chocolate, it seems natural to add some nuts. You can’t really beat the salty-sweet combo. In this case, I added some chopped walnuts to the top of our chocolate spread before freezing. Any nuts will do, especially almonds to go with the chocolate almond spread.

Vanilla ice cream with mint chocolate topper

Chocolate Mint

Chocolate and mint is such a delicious flavor combination. All it takes is a small starlight mint or candy cane. Crust it in a plastic bag or between two layers of plastic wrap and sprinkle over the dollop of chocolate. You could even play around with the shape of this one and freeze it into a candy cane design.

Vanilla ice cream with chocolate orange topping

Chocolate Orange

This is not for me. I’m not much of a chocolate with fruit person. Although, a chocolate strawberry is a different story and would be amazing with ice cream! However, my husband and dad love those chocolate oranges you have to crack apart. So, I thought, why not? This one looks pretty great and is even more creative than the other flavors.

Vanilla ice cream topped with a S'more marshmallow fancy ice cream topper

S’mores

This ice cream topper ventures away from the look of the others. Instead of a frozen piece of chocolate spread with toppings, the marshmallow is the star. Just coat one end of a large marshmallow with the chocolate almond spread and cover it in graham cracker crumbs. If you did want to go with the same style as the other pretty ice cream toppings, you can add mini marshmallows and graham cracker crumbs to the dollop of chocolate spread.
