Ham Pickle and Cream Cheese Pinwheels are something that bring me back to about Junior High School. They were our after-school snack of choice.
When I think of ham pickle and cream cheese pinwheels, I think of a very specific time. I remember hopping off the bus and always going to one friend’s house. We would walk right in and crowd around the kitchen island pulling out food.
Out came the ham. Another friend grabbed the cream cheese. Someone else pulled out the jar of pickles and the pickle grabber that we all though was so fun. Imagine if we had known about this amazing contraption!
We’d all start laying out slices of ham, spreading on cream cheese, and rolling the pickles inside. Then, we’d snack and laugh about our day at school.

Ham Pickle and Cream Cheese Pinwheels
So, we know these have been around forever. I hate to tell you how long ago it was when I was in Jr. High!
They’re always a hit! Unless you’re my dad and don’t like pickles or cream cheese – but he’s the oddball.
The best part is that they’re great anytime. They are a big hit when put out at parties or get-togethers. It’s a great, easy snack for kids. They also make up a great sandwich-free lunch in our favorite container. Especially since the popularity of the keto diet, I’ve seen them suggested as a low-carb snack option more than once.
Something for everyone!

Some ham, pickle, cream cheese pinwheel tips!
We can all see for ourselves how easy these are! I mean, the “recipe” is three ingredients. However, I do have some tips for you.
Layer the ham
Using thick-sliced deli ham make the perfect meat/cheese/pickle ratio. However, if you have thinner slices of ham, it works great to layer a few pieces and spread them out the length of your pickle. You definitely want to taste the ham and use it to keep all the other parts in!
Easier spreading cream cheese
The hardest part about these ham pickle cream cheese pinwheels is spreading the cream cheese. If you buy the regular block of cream cheese and pull it right out of the fridge, it’s going to be difficult to spread.
It helps to let the cream cheese soften a little bit before trying to spread. Even better, there are tubs of whipped cream cheese available that are much easier to spread. Or, just place it in a small container and whip it up yourself.
In addition, you can substitute other soft cheeses for different flavors.

Perfect Pickles
The perfect pickles are long, relatively straight, and not too fat.
A less curved pickle makes it easier to roll nice and tight. Otherwise, you may end up with some messy end pieces.
We often use spears because they are very long and straight and that’s what we usually have in the house. However, for parties, it looks best with the circle of the pickle.
Either way, the ends will always end up not quite as pretty. That’s ok, because it’s a great excuse to snitch a little!
