The theme, decor, and food for a Wedding Shower come pretty easy. The real stumper can be the wedding shower games. No one wants to do the same old thing, but it can be pretty hard to come up with that perfect game. The one the is fun enough to draw everyone in, brings out the competitive spirit, and will be remembered long after the party.
We have the ultimate key to creating the best wedding shower games! You can have a unique and memorable wedding shower game if you just stick to this formula!
Wedding showers are not a boring event in our family. Starting way back, thanks to the creativity of my mom and aunt, wedding shower games have always been something to look forward to.
Maybe it started even earlier… I remember an epic birthday party when my cousin was very young and the games still stand out and make me laugh now. The game that has stood out to me more than 20 years later was a clothing relay. I can still picture my Grandma hurriedly putting on the goofy clothes and shuffling down to the other end, my cousin having the large pants fall down halfway across, and everyone cheering and laughing. It was amazing!

How to Create Your Own Awesome Wedding Shower Games
If you’re here, you’re doing what I do when I host wedding showers. I love to research and see what others have done. I especially seem to find a lot of Minute to Win It games and wedding-related inspiration on Pinterest. I have a Pinterest Wedding Board for all my inspiration, and you’re welcome to it for ideas.
After all my research, I keep coming back to one idea…
Relay Wedding Shower Games
The key to a really fun game, and getting creative with it, is definitely to go for the relay. It involves teams, which always makes it more fun, and the possibilities for elements of the games are endless. You can use the game ideas you find on Pinterest and combine them to come up with a relay the whole party will love.
This is why the clothing relay I mention from my childhood was so much fun! It was simple – putting on articles of clothing – but it was hilarious and a blast with all the competitiveness!
The thing I love about a relay is that you can tailor it to your wedding party or your wedding shower theme. For instance, we used all Johnny Cash related events for our Johnny and June Wedding Shower.

Keeping to a theme really helps reign in your ideas and spark new ones. The themes for a relay can be absolutely anything. For an I Do BBQ, you can stick to things related to BBQ, picnic, even pigs! You can even go very basic with old-school games put into a relay style and you easily have great ideas for game that is simple and fun.
Our Favorite Wedding Shower Games
In our family, wedding shower games are an active, full-participation event. We have done the shoe game and guessing games, but the real show stopper is a large, active relay!
While the older cousins in our family were getting married, we were all really into Flip Cup, or Tippy Cup. Our wedding shower games had that as a base and the people throwing the party got very creative. My husband was a carpet installer at the time. So, they wrapped carpet around a board down the center of the table and each person had to hammer a nail into the board before drinking and flipping their cup.
Johnny Cash Relay
The most recent wedding shower game we put together was a Johnny Cash Relay for a Johnny and June Wedding Shower for my cousin. It was a lot of fun because each portion of the relay related to Johnny Cash songs. With simple things like riding toy horses, hula hooping a ring of fire, and shooting a man in Georgia a really fun relay came together.
Tie-the-Knot Relay
This game is so useful because you can take this concept and apply it to any wedding shower games. For our Tie-the-Knot Relay, we focused on planting flowers for the new couple. The catch is that everyone is tied together for different tasks.

You can do this for anything! Absolutely any task that fits your shower theme can be made into a Tie-the-Knot Relay by requiring participants to be tied together while they complete it. Tie some together at the wrist, tie some together at the ankle, tie some at the waist… Get creative with it!
Wedding Shower Games People Remember
There is something about a team event that absolutely makes a game. The problem is most of us don’t think we’re creative enough to come up with a great idea…
I’m telling you a relay is the way to go!
With a relay, all you have to do is string together a couple smaller tasks. You can keep it as simple as you’d like because the competitive team spirit will always make it fun. However, you can also get as creative as you’d like. Tailor your wedding shower games to your theme, make them specific to the couple, or involve everyone in creating something for the new couple but make it a little challenging…
You have the creativity to do this! Take all those party game pins you’ve been collecting and make a plan. The wedding shower guests will love the chance to do something out of the ordinary and your party will be a hit!
