This Christmas we did something that we haven’t done since long before the kiddos came around.
We drew names from a hat and made homemade Christmas gifts. It was so fun!
Homemade Christmas gifts is something we did with our larger extended family for a few years. We did a couple free-for-alls and even a couple with themes – paper, duct tape, etc.
It was always fun to watch the exchange.
This year, with having a much smaller family celebration and the kids being older, we decided to try it again.
It did not disappoint!
My husband built a bike ramp for our son, I made some homemade extracts and decorated a mask for my mom, our son used tape to spray paint World’s Best Grandpa on a piece of metal, our daughter sketched and painted her dad’s old truck, my dad made a gorgeous circle frame for me with a photo of our kids… (You also have to check out the DIY Kids Camper my dad made for Little Lady’s birthday!)
It was all amazing!

Hanging Doll Holder for LOL Surprise OMG dolls
You know when you have a certain gift that is just a hit that year?
For our Little Lady that was LOL Surprise OMG dolls this year. She got a couple for her birthday in October and more for Christmas.
That’s why my mom’s homemade gift was so perfect!
She used her sewing skills to cover one large piece of fabric in a bunch of fabric pockets the perfect size for OMG dolls.
We love a gift that also works as toy storage, don’t we?
We’re happy to have the toys up off the floor, and our daughter loves to display her dolls or pretend they’re having a large sleepover with their pillows and sleeping bags. It’s so perfect.

If you need a lot of dolls hung and are not interested in sewing your own – although the little pillows and cute fabrics just make it for me – you can buy a hanging doll organizer like this one to put over the back of any door.
There are also some great hanging options for the smaller LOL Surprise Dolls like this hanging LOL organizer with 40 pockets. I also really love this carrying case that folds up and even has a little house design for playing.
If you want to place your hanging doll holder over a door, any shoe organizer will probably work as well. If you’d like the dolls to be put away, you could also go with one that hangs right in the closet.

DIY Hanging Doll Holder
If you’re looking to run with this fantastic idea, you can really make it any size you’d like.
You can also make your pockets fit any doll you’d like. In fact, our son sewed one for his Sonic figures about a month later.
All you need is one large piece of fabric, a dowel, string, and a coordinating fabric or trim if you choose.
Just like a curtain, you will sew a pocket at the top. That way, you can insert a dowel, pipe, or scrap piece of quarter round (used here) so there is something sturdy holding your hanging doll holder.
Then, sew as many pockets as you’d like to fit. It helps to have a doll as an example and measure from the toes to the chin. This way, the pockets can be little sleeping bags for playing.
It looks like Barbie might be a bit taller than OMG dolls, but it still works.
You can even get fancy with it by adding little pillows like my mom did. Just use a small piece of material and stuff a bit of batting inside before the final side is stitched. It’s such a cute touch!
This hanging doll organizer could be double sided if you need to hold more dolls.
Or, you can also add pockets to the back side. That’s what my mom did for my daughter.
It’s a great use of space.

This idea can definitely be customized to any doll. You can change the size depending on how many dolls there are too.
Already, my daughter could use another one for more LOL Surprise OMG dolls. They’re her favorite.
At least we have one area we know she’ll keep tidy now. She loves to display them in this hanging doll holder and make it part of her play.

Perfect gift
We just loved this gift this year. It was so creative and thoughtful.
It’s such a great gift for any little girl or boy, no matter what they’re into.
As I mentioned earlier, my son loved making one for his four Sonic action figures. It would also work well for super hero action figures, dinosaur toys (although the size for each pocket would be interesting), Disney Princess dolls, etc.
