The Color Run #YesMoment

July 16, 2015

We had such a great time at The Color Run last weekend!

Thanks to Kohl’s, I got to invite my bestie to run The Color Run with me. They also sent us some sweet, colorful Fitbits to track our steps.

I had had planned to take the kiddos along because my little guy had such a blast at Run or Dye, but at the last minute their Godmothers decided to take them to church and swimming for the day. I couldn’t pass up that offer!

So, it was a Girl’s Day!

It was SO hot the day of the run, so we strapped our spiffy Color Run sweatbands and were ready to go.

We decided to park in the shuttle lot, since we had chosen the 10:00am start time. That was a fantastic idea because they were really organized and had a ton of buses running. We also noticed everyone was lining up at the front of the lot, but buses were picking up from several different rows, so we saved a ton of time walking back a few rows to get in line.

You aren’t 100% committed to your start time, but it is so nice that The Color Run does that because it seemed a lot more organized and less crowded than Run or Dye. We got over to the starting line and only had to stand around through 2 or 3 starts before we were at the front. Our Kohl’s #YesMoment shirts, paired with my shouting of, “it’s her birthday!” got Spanks a free hat.

It was fun to run around the fairgrounds, but it definitely felt a little too big at times and I would have loved to hear the music throughout instead of at the color stations which felt a little far between. One thing I did love about Run or Dye is that the first color station was set up right as you ran out. We had quite a ways to go before getting our first bit of color this time around. It also would have been nice to see some mile markers along the course.

There were some fun activities going on. The first color station had the “happiness wall” I believe it was called… We got to write what we were happy for and our’s was obvious…

They also had a slip and slide area set up to help people beat the heat. Now, if that would have been on the fair’s giant slide, they really would have had something!

The color was dispensed through bottles that they squeezed on us as we passed. Honestly, they should have just reached in and grabbed a handful of color to throw on us, it would have been a lot more effective. We definitely ended us less colorful than I expected and a lot of the time people would be refilling their bottles.

The best part about the color was the shine at the end! I was so desperate to get some color for my little one – since it didn’t come in our race packet like I had been expecting, and I had promised our own color run when I got home – that I scooped up some of the silver, glittery powder at the end, only to find out they gave out color packets as we exited the race.

I was also very excited to get a medal! My second medal ever, after The Biggest Loser Run/Walk. I wish we had some pictures, but I was too dirty to get my phone out much and we did hit up some of the professional photography spots, so I’ll squeeze one in once those come out.

We had such a great time! I’m so thankful to Kohl’s for getting this boring ol’ Momma out of the house for a fun day with one of my favorite people who I used to never do anything without, but now don’t see nearly enough. It was wonderful!

Have you done a fun run before? Which one and how does it compare?
