Edison bulbs are such a great look, but they take the right lamp to show them off. It is so easy to create your own upcycled lamp to show off those Edison bulbs and add some farmhouse or industrial style to your space!

I love the look of Edison bulbs. The difficult part is having just the right lighting fixture for them. You can’t hide them away under a regular shade. They are meant to be seen.
So, when I decided I wanted the perfect lamp to show off some amazing Edison Bulbs, I got creative.

Upcycled Lamp Thrifting
To be honest, my first thoughts were to thrift a lamp base and find something amazing to add to it and paint the entire thing to match. Have you seen the things people make by adding toy cars, dinosaurs, etc.? They look so fun once it’s all painted the same color.

As I was roaming around Goodwill, I found the perfect base pretty quickly. It wasn’t the style I was looking for but I was sold because of the USB port built right into the side. Plus, it was 75% off and only $1.75.
The base I found is very similar to this lamp with charging port from Amazon.
Next, I looked around for the perfect piece to add to it to make it more unique. I was really focused on the metal pieces thinking I could slide something down around the base to make it more interesting.
As I found this wire basket, the plans changed. We noticed it is the perfect size to be the shade for the lamp. Not only that, but it solves the dilemma of covering the awesome Edison bulb with a shade or leaving it looking unfinished without a shade.
If you can’t find a basket, you can find clip on wire shades from Amazon that will also look so cute. I like this one with the vertical wire look and this chicken wire one.
Upcycled Lamp with Basket Shade
It couldn’t be easier to make the awesome lamp! With a little cleanup of the base and wire basket, all you need is an old lampshade you don’t mind tearing apart.
I had an ugly shade lying around from a discarded project years ago. Tearing off the fabric and snipping the center portion – the fitter – from the rest of the shade, gives you exactly what you need to mount the basket. It’s so much easier than creating your own!
You can also buy these pieces depending on what type of fitter or harp you need.
Just snip the fitter from the rest of the shade, leaving the top portion to connect to the basket. Then, it only takes a little grinding to smooth down the rough edges. It’s very easy to attach the two wire pieces together. We kept it really simple with just some strong wire wrapped around metal from the old shade and the wire of the basket. It’s barely noticeable and, with the look of this lamp, it’s fine to keep it rustic.
That’s really all there is to this lamp! I originally pictured it sprayed an oil rubbed bronze and placed in our son’s room. However, once seeing it placed in the dining room for photos, it’s never leaving there again.
The metal looks so good with our bit of farmhouse style. I love it!

Edison Bulbs
I LOVE the Edison bulb look. You can get a six pack of these right on Amazon. They add such a great look. Like a little light bulb piece of jewelry.
Edison bulbs, and lamps like this, can fit in perfectly with the farmhouse style of our dining room. However, they are also SO perfect for more of an industrial look like our kiddo’s Route 66 Bedroom.
Our basement, when refinished, will have a mix of wood tones along with oil rubbed bronze and metal pipes. This lamp may get it’s spray of paint and make it down there once all of that is finished too!
Creating your own lamp from thrifted items is so simple. You can create something really unique and fun for only a couple dollars.
This lamp that we created for less than $5 has a lot of the same features as this gorgeous lamp selling on Amazon for a much higher price! It’s such a thrill to save money and get the same style!
I hope this gives you some inspiration and shows how easy it can be to do it yourself!
