Merry Christmas!
Isn’t the Christmas season the best for movies? I love getting into the holiday spirit with classic Christmas movies, Hallmark movies, or anything with a holiday spin.
Do you have favorite movies you have to watch each year?
We have a few. One that tops the list and always hits our TV first is How The Grinch Stole Christmas. We usually watch both the live movie and the newest movie.
This year, my son actually surprised me because he didn’t know about the original movie. I couldn’t believe it! I swear we have watched it before, but he must have been pretty little.
I definitely felt like that was a parenting misstep on my part. The other movies are great, but there really is nothing like the original.
The Grinch Movie Night
What better way to celebrate a classic movie like the Grinch but to have a Grinch Movie Night?!
There are a lot of things you can do to easily pull this together and make a Grinch movie night a little extra special.
Throw on some matching Grinch pajamas. Snuggle up with a cozy Grinch blanket. Throw on a Grinch hat or Grinch socks.
Basically, anything you can make red and green will go a long way to setting the mood. It would also be the perfect time to have a roast for dinner and call it “roast beast.” Or, you could bake some healthy and fun Green Spinach Hulk Muffins and add a little red frosting, whip up a red and green version of this Dumbo Circus Peanuts and Popcorn, or serve a green punch with a red sugar rim.
I have an easy craft and treat for you to do, so stay tuned for Part 2 to see our cute little Grinch Heart Banner!
Grinch Heart Candy
Let’s start with the yummy stuff first. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned a few times that I’m not much of a baker. However, I am a darn good melter!
Our Christmas treats are usually limited to chocolate covered pretzels. I did make a very similar treat with these Santa Bear Hot Chocolate Melts. I usually keep almond bark or chocolate chips in our pantry just so the kids can think we “bake” every so often!
We have some cute silicone heart molds that I always love an excuse to use. So, Grinch Heart Candy is perfect!
Pack a little melted almond bark colored red into the heart mold. Then, squish the little heart inside a blob of green melted almond bark, and you have an adorable little holiday treat!
If almond bark isn’t your thing, switch to already colored candy melts or white chocolate.
One thing I will say with this heart mold, the hearts are a little large. A smaller mold will make a daintier heart that is a little easier to bite.
This is a perfect – super easy – treat to make with kids. It’s so easy to melt the almond bark slowly in 15 second intervals. The kiddos can help add a few drops of food coloring and peppermint extract. It’s also easy enough to let them fill the mold or push the heart into the green blob.
Grinch Heart Candy
Ingredients
- White Chocolate or Almond Bark
- Red and Green Food Coloring
- Peppermint Extract
Instructions
- Place 2 squares of white almond bark in the microwave and heat in 15-30 second intervals, stirring frequently until melted
- Add a couple drops of peppermint extract and 5+ drops of red food coloring and stir
- Fill heart molds and tap to release any air bubbles
- Place hearts in the fridge for about 20 minutes to fully harden
- Melt another 2 squares of almond bark
- Stir in a couple drops of peppermint extract and 4+ drops of green food coloring, depending on the color you like
- Place about a tablespoon of melted green almond bark on a plastic cutting board or parchment paper
- Remove red hearts from the mold and place in the center while still melted
- Let cool on counter or in the refrigerator
Notes
The food coloring may cause your melted almond bark or chocolate to harden quickly, so stir frequently and work quickly.
To get smooth hearts, be sure to tap the mold until all air bubbles rise to the surface before cooling.
Some Grinch Heart Peppermint Candy Tips
Melt the almond bark or chocolate slowly and stir frequently.
To get a rich red or green color, you need quite a few drops of food coloring. This can make your almond bark start to seize up, so you have to keep stirring and work quickly or go for a lighter color.
Make sure to tap your mold to get all the air bubbles out of your hearts.
Pop the hearts in the fridge. They won’t take long to harden, 15 minutes or less.
The cute little Grinch Heart Peppermint Candy looks adorable on a plate for Santa. To top it off, you might even want to make a matching Grinch Heart Banner which is also super easy and you can find that here!
