We’re getting excited for Mary Poppins Returns in our house! I love that it’s a continuation of the story and not just a Mary Poppins remake. It looks so sweet and I think we parents will get a lot out of this one.

We already have the kids’ tickets! If they’re still doing this, you have to stop at Subway and grab a kids meal. They have a code for a free kids ticket to Mary Poppins Returns!

As a special treat for the kids, I decided to surprise them with some Mary Poppins Spoonful of Sugar Cookies.

Even if Mary Poppins isn’t your thing, these cookies are so perfect for a little tea party! These would have been so much fun at our Fairy Tea Party for Little Lady’s 5th birthday! I can just imagine a sweet, little just-because tea party with these cute little spoonful of sugar cookies being stirred into a teacup of milk. So precious!

Spoon Shape

We have had these tiny little spoon molds for over a year, but I’ve never tried baking anything in them. The ones we have are tiny! Be sure to check the dimensions when you order if you’d like bigger ones.

The nice thing about the spoon molds is that you can bake them right in the silicone mold and they hold the spoon shape. There are also spoon cookie cutters (like in this cute little cutlery set), but they will likely end up a little wider and cartoonish. I have seen that you could place them over the back of a spoon to get closer to the right shape, so that could be something to try.

The first time I made these, we didn’t have and good decorating sugar, so I made a quick little powdered sugar icing and spooned some actual sugar on top. I got the thumbs up from Little Guy, but it didn’t look as amazing as I hoped.

This time around, I found a fun, white sparkling sugar. That is what they need! It really drives the spoonful of sugar cookie idea home!

I’m not much of a baker, so I used pre-made sugar cookie dough. However, any sugar cookie recipe will work- this one seems good. We even made them the first time with just a bit of extra dough while making snickerdoodles.

The key to these spoon molds is to fill with just the right amount of cookie dough. Too much and they’ll overflow and wreck the shape. Too little and they will not hold together. I found that filling the mold 2/3 of the way worked best. Also, the most important thing is to let the cookies cool completely before removing!

The important thing here is the shape, and getting that nice spoonful of sugar. If you have some pre-made icing that makes it very easy. I just used some powdered sugar and the tiniest bit of water to make our icing. If your making a large batch, using milk and adding a little vanilla extract also adds some good flavor. Just a dollop in the spoon and top it with the sparking sugar. That’s all there is to these cute Spoonful of Sugar Cookies!

Mary Poppins Returns!

Are you a fan of the original Mary Poppins? It’s one Disney movie we don’t own and I haven’t show the kiddos yet. I remember it from my childhood. I think I was scared of everyone at the bank and all the darker scenes, but I remember every song.

As someone who grew up with this movie, I can’t wait to see the new version. I love that I watched the movie as a kid like the Banks children, and now I can watch it as an adult like the grown Banks children.

Plus, as someone who just saw Hamilton this year and can’t stop listening to the music, I’m really looking forward to seeing Lin-Manuel Miranda! Anyone else?
