We are really missing our Disney fix during this crazy year. The pandemic cancelled our June Walt Disney World trip to the Fort Wilderness cabins. We were so sad about that and kept looking forward to an end so we could plan another trip.
Well… that’s been taking longer than expected…
Disney Movies
The one thing getting us through with our daily Disney fix is Disney+ – thank goodness for all the great Disney shows and movies all in one place!
As the 1-year mark of staying at home comes up this month, it reminds me of our very last movie theater experience. We were very lucky to make it to the theater during Spring Break, which we were up at our cabin. We saw Disney’s Onward and loved it!
That week was our last time with normal pre-pandemic life. It seems so crazy now!

Raya and the Last Dragon
One year later, and another great Disney movie is out today!
It’s a different time now, so Raya and the Last Dragon will be in theaters as well as on Disney+ with premiere access.
Raya and the Last Dragon is sure to be another amazing Disney movie. We love a strong heroine, don’t we?
Raya and the Last Dragon” takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.

Colors of Nature
Throughout the ancient kingdom of Kumandra, diverse natural landscapes
make up five distinct lands—Heart, Fang, Spine, Talon and Tail—together
forming the geographic shape of a dragon. Each landscape has it’s own color palate.
This activity gets the kids outside for a fun scavenger hunt to find colors in their own environment. Encourage your kiddos to find a variety of the most colorful items they can. This can be done by gathering, taking photos, or drawing pictures. It’s a great way to marvel at the mystery of nature!

Fantasy Animal
Though traveling as a lone warrior, Raya entrusts the help of Tuk Tuk, a faithful companion who is built for speed and always ready to roll—literally and figuratively. Tuk Tuk uses his unique characteristic to help Raya on her journey.
This activity encourages kids to imagine their own fantasy animal. Design and combine certain characteristics – or adaptations – that would be helpful in the environment they live.
Design your own animal or use the prompts from the Raya and the Last Dragon Activity Book.
Raya and the Last Dragon MadLib
My kids get such a kick out of MadLibs. In fact, just today, my son was re-reading some completed Nation Geographic MadLibs he completed a while back.
These stories are often funny and are such a great way to teach language. It’s fun to see how quickly they grasp adjectives, verbs, nouns, etc. and then giggle like made when they read the completed story.
You can find a very cute story in the Raya and the Last Dragon Activity Book which you can download below!
