I shared a few of our camper must-haves before, but there are also some that are specific to us and our uses and camping preference.

We don’t get to camp nearly as much as I would like. I was the one who wanted to buy our pop up camper and my husband isn’t really into camping. However, we have compromised by making our main camping trip of the year and event he enjoys.

These are the main pop up camper must haves for us. They are definitely all (except the last) perfect for our camper must haves list in general. In fact, two of them made both lists! But, we have a pop up so I’m sharing our favorites for my fellow pop up fans.

Plus, I just love my pop up camper family! Tell me all about your tent trailer in the comments… Is it new or old? Have you remodeled or made any smart improvements? Where are you traveling?

Side note here: What do you call your pup? Tent trailer, pop up, popup, pop-up? Haha! For as many articles as I’ve written about our pop up, I still switch back and forth…

Speaking of all our pop up camper posts… Make sure you didn’t miss any!

trailer hitch dolly - pop up camper must haves

Hitch Dolly

I have to start with the one thing that we couldn’t do without. I actually never knew these existed until my husband came home with one.

We use our trailer dolly for our pop up campers (yes, we have a few project campers), snowmobile trailer, boat trailers, etc…

It’s a lifesaver!!!

Instead of always having to hook the trailer up to the car or something else to toy, this makes moving the camper around so much easier!

This hitch dolly from Amazon is very similar to what we have and it seems to have good reviews. If you want something stronger (1000lb capacity as opposed to 600lb capacity) you can get something like this.

Honda Super Quiet Generator for camper

Honda Generator

I mentioned this last time since it works for all campers, but we would never make it without our Honda generator.

As much as I love campers (and obsess about them a little) we don’t actually get to take many camping trips. Our main trip of the summer is to Watercross which is an event where we camp out in a fairground with no hookups.

It is always SO HOT and we run our generator and a/c for a good portion of the time. Our Honda generator is the best! It’s so small and quiet, we wouldn’t use anything else!

firepit - camper must haves - perfect for unusual camping destinations

Fire Pit

As I mentioned, our main camping trip is very sparse on the amenities. In fact, there are no no fire rings, so we have to bring our own for a campfire.

If you’re someone who likes to camp off the beaten path, it’s super handy to have one of these. It also fits just fine with our stuff in the back of our Suburban.

One of the great things about our fire pit is that it also has a grate attachment so you can grill food right over the fire. It’s the best! You can throw your hot dogs right on top, pop popcorn, or cook anything right over the flame or off to the side for indirect heat.

We’ve had our fire pit for about 8 years and it’s starting to look it’s age. It’s also a smart investment to get a fire pit cover to keep it protected from the elements.

electronic brake control for camper

Trailer Brake Control

Trailer Brake Control is similar to the one we have.

Ok, let’s be honest, I know next to nothing about this thing… just that my husband raves about it each time we are towing and never fails to tell me about the difference it makes from the first couple times we towed the camper.

kid-o-bunk convertible cots

Kids cots

If you’re a family of four or five, you know that you have to get creative with sleeping arrangements in a pop up camper.

For us, one of our pop up camper must haves are cots for each kid. I believe these may be the ones we have, but the price seems lower than I thought…

I have an entire post about how we sleep two kiddos super comfortably and create a fun space for them in one bunk. It works so well!

To keep it simple, I can tell you that we have removed the mattress and use two children’s cots instead. It works like a charm!

My dream is to actually get one of these cot bunk beds for the kiddos.

I love how the Kid-O-Bunk from Disc-O-Bed converts to a little seating area!

Pop Up Camper Lift System

This is just a dream item, but how nice would it be to have an automatic lift system for your pop up camper?

Yes Please!

No more pulling out the crank and using those muscles and sweating in the hot sun. Or being exhausted from a fun trip and having to tuck – crank – tuck – crank when you just can’t wait to head home.

This pop up camper lift system on Amazon has so many rave reviews.

I went back pretty far and the majority of them seem to be replacing worn-out automatic lift systems, but many say it should work just fine to replace a manual lift! That would be amazing – what a luxury!

Do you have any pop up camper must haves? I’d love to hear them!

  1. I realized that we still lack a lot of camper must-haves. Will try to check this Honda generator and the fire pit if it is available locally.
